You've got to love the Herald-Sun. Uses this 'opportunity' to bring up all of Cousins' past  ::)

BEN Cousins has frequently found himself at the centre over controversy over well-publicised troubles with drugs and underworld connections that have frequently overshadowed his on-field brilliance.

RICHMOND star Ben Cousins has been rushed to hospital with a re-occurrence of stomach pains.

"The midfielder's career has been marred by highly-publicised off-field incidents involving recreational drug use.

He was banned from the AFL for one year in 2007 for "bringing the game into disrepute."

Hutchy and Barret just looking to create a storm in a tea cup.

The stories that these two break 'calling' news surely only falls short of propoganda for puppets?

SEN said at 11.40am Cuz was rushed to hospital with a stomach complaint.

Gerard Healy apparently spoke to Cuz at 9pm and said he was happy and healthy.

SEN reporter confirmed he was taken to hospital by ambulance and admitted to the emergency dept. He is not in intensive care. They are not sure what ward he is in.

SEN just said Cuz was moved from emergency into intensive care at 2.30pm just for observational purposes. When the hospital said he wasn't in intensive care it was because he was still in the emergency department.

Club will comment at 4pm.

Ben Cousins moved to intensive care after reaction to sleeping pill
SAMANTHA LANE
July 5, 2010 - 2:51PM

2.40pm UPDATE

BEN Cousins has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Epworth hospital after having his worrying stomach complaint assessed by doctors.

The Age has been told Cousins is in a stable condition, and that he is an intensive care bed for observation, but concern about the 31-year-old recovering drug addict is clearly high.

The Richmond onballer was rushed to hospital in an ambulance around 11.45am today and was still having his condition assessed in an emergency department booth at 1.20pm.

It was then decided he should go to intensive care.

Richmond released a statement saying Cousins had suffered from "an adverse reaction to a sleeping tablet" and that the club was awaiting further updates.

The 31-year-old was part of Richmond’s stirring come-from-behind win over Sydney at the MCG on Sunday, gathering 21 possessions.

Cousins was treated at the Epworth prior to round one for a stomach complaint that caused him extreme pain.

The Age understands the Brownlow medallist has not required treatment at the Epworth since that time.
Cousins has submitted himself to regular drug testing since the Tigers threw him a lifeline following his year-long ban from the AFL for illicit drug use.

Gerard Healy, the 3AW Sports Today host who is a mentor to Cousins, has told the radio station he spoke to the Tigers' star at 9pm last night and was 'happy and healthy'.

RFC press conference about Cuz at 4pm
« Reply #22 on: July 05, 2010, 04:13:21 PM »
Craig Cameron said Cuz's condition won't be fully known for another day or so (24 hours). He's sedated while in hospital and in intensive care. All Cameron said he wasn't a doctor and all he knows is Cuz had an adverse reaction to the sleeping tablet. Cameron made it certain that nothing illicit was involved.

Doesn't sound great does it if he's been sedated  :-\. Even if he's okay and he's just in ICU on observation he definitely won't be playing this week :(.

Got to love the journo who asked if he was intoxicated  ::)

Cousins moved to intensive care
Updated July 5, 2010 16:29:00

Richmond says it will not know more about Ben Cousins' condition for "24 to 48 hours" after the former Brownlow medallist was moved to intensive care at Melbourne's Epworth Hospital.

Cousins was taken to hospital by ambulance at around 11.45am (AEST) for what Cameron described as as an "adverse reaction to a sleeping tablet".

The 32-year-old spent close to three hours in the hospital's emergency department before being moved to intensive care.

Tigers football operations manager Craig Cameron says Cousins is sedated and may have taken the sleeping tablet as part of his recovery process following the Tigers' four-point victory over Sydney at the MCG on Sunday.

Cousins was taken to Epworth Hospital in March suffering from cramps and severe abdominal pain, however Cameron says the West Coast premiership player's current condition is "unrelated" to this previous episode.

Cameron says he is unaware if Cousins consumed alcohol in the hours following the Tigers' victory over the Swans.

Ch 10 saying Cuz has been put into an "induced coma" so they can treat him.

They show Cameron saying Cuz's girlfriend had trouble waking Cuz this morning so called the club doctor and after examining him they took him to hospital. He's been put into intensive care and sedated.

BROWNLOW Medallist Ben Cousins is under observation at Epworth Hospital's intensive care unit after being rushed to hospital after undergoing an adverse reaction to a sleeping pill.

His condition is being monitored and more will be known in 24-48 hours.

Cousins spent Monday morning in the emergency department before he was sedated and moved to intensive care on Monday afternoon.

Richmond football manager Craig Cameron told the media the club doctor was contacted by Cousins' girlfriend when she had difficulty waking him on Monday morning.

“As you’re all probably aware Ben Cousins has had an adverse reaction to a sleeping pill,” Cameron said.

“This morning his girlfriend rang the club and spoke to the club doctor to let him know that she found it difficult to rouse him and it was decided to take him to Epworth hospital.

“The only information we have from the staff is that it was an adverse reaction to a sleeping pill and as I say we really won’t know more for the next day or so.”

Cameron was unaware of exactly how many sleeping tablets Cousins had consumed last night but denied the incident was suspicious.

“We’ve got no suspicion that there was anything illicit involved,” Cameron said.

“It’s definitely concerning for his health. He’s in hospital in intensive care. His condition won’t be known for another 24 hours and that’s concerning for sure and we’re worried about Ben’s health.”

Cameron admitted he wasn’t previously aware that Cousins was taking a sedative but dismissed it as being unusual.

“He probably takes one after a game I’d imagine to try and calm down and sleep. I don’t think it’s unusual for players to take sedatives or sleeping tables after games.”

Cameron said Monday's issue was unrelated to an abdominal complaint Cousins suffered earlier this year.

Cousins, who played in the 2006 premiership as part of his 238 games for West Coast, was sacked by the club in 2007 after his arrest on drugs charges - later dropped - and spent 2008 out of the game after being deregistered by the AFL.

He was picked up by the Tigers with the last pick in the 2009 NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft, and despite battling injury, has played 25 matches for his new club.

I'd doubt it, Bo. Depends on his condition, as it could all be precautionary
My dad had a reaction to morphine and was on life support for three days as a result and two months in hospital afterwards recovering from something he'd had before and shown no previous problems with it.
But he wasn't a fit boy like Ben, so hopefully he's up and about soon  :thumbsup
