having something to do with the coach in the past, would think he wouldnt make it unless he has changed dramatically

That's Hird you're talking about Jackstar?

It's a bit of a worry when Hird says in his press conference that he's ready for the job because he watches a lot of football on telly and talks about footy with others.

This will make the next 4 years at the bombers very interesting with there golden child Hirdy as coach.
I cant see him peaking early like vossy with a finals appearence in the first year as coach.
Hird appointment as coach cant really do any harm though unless he ends up with the wooden spoon in 4 years time. Currently they have a pretty shaky list no doubt his going to need to pick up some diamond in the roughs through the draft and have a few trades go his way over the next 4 years.

Will be farcical. An appointment to sell memberships because their list is so weak.

He'll need all the luck he can get. He may be the golden boy now but if in two years Essendon are still bottom

6 the natives will start to get restless. Needs to get consistency into all those flashy players Knights has

brought to the club.

Hird is officially the coach for the next 4 years

Who in their right mind gives any coach with no experience a 4-year contract  ???.

Surely $$$ and boosting membership is the main driver of this. Most of it to pay off Knighter's final two years lol.

The Bombers are kidding themselves if they believe in instant results next year  :lol

Throwing around money like they are, paying off contracts and paying four year contracts to rookie coaches reminds me of the war between the Pies and Us in poaching each other's players in the early '80s.  And we all know where we ended up after that - on the scrap heap.  I hope they have a similar experience -)

LOL we can only hope  :pray. Hird then gets sacked, cracks the sads and doesn't come back for 16 years after a self-imposed exile  ;)

And they go on this long cycle of employing only Bomber players like we did
Looking foward to Mal Michael or someone next in 2015 lol
Wasn't he the bloke that kicked the wrong way for the Lions?  Perfect choice  :thumbsup

Whilst Hardwick and Bailey fight out premierships just as the Hird four year plan comes to its painful end.

I think the candidates of former Essendon players to coach from 2014 are

Ian McMullin
Brad Fox
Bradley Plain
Damian Cupido
Jason Laycock will be applying for the candidacy of the captain playing coach role.

If Hird can get the right people around him then he will do alright, if one of those people ends up being Mark Thompson (which is not out of the question) then i'm positive he will make it as a coach. Hird has said he is looking at a slow build, he hasn't mentioned finals at all, he's taken a similar line as Hardwick (develop the list). We can all dream and salivate over the hopeful demise of one James Hird and we really should, but i'm not convinced this story is going to be a disaster for the essendon football club.

Hird might want a slow build, but I don't think the supporters will.
