I don't think people understand that a second rounder this year is not quite the same as a second round pick in years gone by. Our second round pick is pick 28, (29 with WC priority pick?) but that could move even later depending on compensation picks issued/used. In reality our second round pick wont be far off being equivalent of third round picks for finishing second last in previous years; eg our third round pick last year was 35.
The club would remiss not to consider all options when it comes to recruiting and if they apply the same due diligence and criteria to both potential trades or draftees then the chances of making successful decisions are pretty much the same.
Regardless of how the players are brought to the club, not all will work out. No sane person expects a 100% strike rate with drafting so the same common sense should be applied to trading.
Perhaps with the next two drafts being so compromised looking at trading rather than solely hoping to fluke something late in the draft is not as silly as people seem to think. As I've said before as long as it is the right player for the right price.
What amazes me most though, is that people get their nickers in such a knot over unsubstantiated rumours that mostly have their origins from BF.
