Gees maybe they think that Darling is the best available or tailored to their needs but i really get the feeling that a lot of interstate clubs are becoming more and more weary of picking victorians fearing they will only leave after they have pumped 75-100 games into them and are entering their prime.

Whatever the reson is i would be very happy if this was the case ensuring we could have one of Gaff or Heppell. Though who knows we may have our eye on some else (Polec, Lynch, Caddy)...

Great point y&b. The interesting thing for me will be to see wether this will be the case in reverse - will the players originally from WA and SA demand to return to there home state? History has suggested this is less of a factor but the new free trading will have many new consequences for all clubs in the next few years. I hope, having Beeny as CEO, we will have the edge in coping with the situation better than others.

I don't think we can lose picking between Heppell, Polec and Gaff. All are very similar in game style and attributes (they're all left footers too aren't they  ???).  None of these players will be of the same calibre of Cotchin or Martin, even though they are only 3/4 picks picks later than them (albeit in a different draft) but they will still become valuable players for our future. They are finishers/wingmen who would normally go in the later half of the first round round in a draft but given that the over 10 of the best players have already been taken by the GC before another club even gets it's first choice, their stocks have been elevated.

We are in a very fortunate position where our needs match the type of players left. If we had been desperate for  more inside midfielders, forwards or backmen, then we would have had to pick up a second rate option rather than the quality choices we have for an outside ball-user.

According to the AFL site Polec will be a Tiger.....

The order of the first six appears to be

The question is whether Gold Coast will plump for Gorringe at No.7 or go for a midfielder.
