We will have 4 rookie picks - 11, 28, 45 and 60

http://cms.melbournefc.com.au/News/NewsArticle/tabid/7415/Default.aspx

So it looks like we were right. O'Reilly and any Irish rookie for that matter is no longer classed as an international rookie and are included inside the 8 standard rookies maximum.

which means we only have 2 picks if we've committed to Hi Slop & Miller

2 picks will be more than enough, the rookie draft will be well and truly dredged by the time we get to pick anyone!
I still think we have a ton of potential on our rookie list from last year, watch out for  break out season's from  Contin and Westhoff ;)

History shows there's always a few kids who are overlooked as 18 year olds even in the rookie draft yet pop up on an AFL list a year or two later and succeed. Hell one was the premiership captain this year as much as I can't stand the magpie maggot. A recruiter who can spot late developers before anyone can is worth their weight in gold. That's why I'm against drafting older retreads who we 100% know aren't up to it. A waste to two rookie picks in our case. You're better off taking an educated chance with a kid. Sure many will come to nothing but not all and those clubs that invest in the drafts usually are the ones that reap the rewards.

Edited For accuracy  :P ;D

You wonder if either, or both of, Miller and Hisplop would still be rookied if the picks were not 45 and 60.
Pick 60 in the rookie draft, what's that, about pick 180?

Ignoring all the rookie promotions they'd be around 129 and 144 respectively.

Shane Mumford was pick 140 and Greg Broughton at 155  ;)

Yeah, I didn't take the rookie promotions into account. 28 rookie promotions this year (compared to 17 last year) brings our last pick to be 150 overall.

I'm sure most of you will disagree with me, but I'm still amazed how on earth we rookied Miller and Hislop.

What annoys the hell out of me more is when I see the likes of Pods, barlow, Curnow, Lower,
Richardson playing for other clubs, yet we went down the dud recycled road with these 2 rejects.

This was a complete and utter waste in my opinion.

If pods was drafted by richmond and thus played without the delivery he gets at geelong it's more than likely he would be regarded as another wasted draft pick

Al that maybe right but look at the Dees right. Any chance they would've rookied either of these 2. No chance.

There are so many good players out there yet we decided on these 2. I mean Hislop FFS when you have Lowers, Barlows floating around :banghead :banghead

Absolute waste

Dunno who would disagree with that mate. Hislop can't play and there is no real need for Miller.

I don't get the relevance, Barlow was Pick 8 in the 2009 rookie draft while Hislop was still under contract on the senior list
Lower was taken at Pick 37 in the 2010 rookie draft and Hislop Pick 45 when he was rerookied

I think he means you have the barlow and Lowers types floating around each year and yet we hang on to certain duds such as hislop and co.

fair point too. Give some more kids a chance u never know u might get lucky - the likes of hislop well we all know he will NEVER make it, not good enough watse of space and money
