Works in progressRohan Connolly
December 19, 2010
As the 17 AFL clubs prepare for a big summer of pre-season training, Rohan Connolly assesses how they are shaping up and what work still needs to be done..RichmondTricky summer in some ways for the Tigers, having to balance the obvious optimism emerging from a vastly improved second half of 2010, against the harsher reality of just six wins and a finish of 15th. Coach Damien Hardwick won't hold back reminding his list that while base camp has at least been established, the mountain is still to be climbed. The essentials at least are there now, particularly in midfield, where Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin, a fit Nathan Foley and a big improver in Shane Edwards are good foils for older heads such as Shane Tuck and Daniel Jackson, recruits Shaun Grigg and Bachar Houli beefing up the contingent further. Life is sure to be a little tougher for Coleman medallist Jack Riewoldt next year, but most of the younger Tigers should prepare to receive some extra attention as their stocks rise accordingly.
What they want for Christmas: Big pre-seasons from the kids, more four-quarter performances, and a giant hose for the Tiger hordes who get ahead of themselves.
