They look bored stiff lol. I bet they've all been told to stay in their rooms until morning after last year's incident.

If its a 8am bus I think this is a bad descion. Could of waited to see what the airlines were saying today before making a call as it looks like they will all be flying again this morning. Who said that was 8 hour bus trip, are you kidding, try 10 hours or more depending on the amount of roadworks.

Absolutely bad decision. Honestly what were they thinking. Its only Sydney and whats a few extra hours wait. Flights are now able to depart.

Yes stuck

Got a txt at half time yesterday saying flight was cancelled

Got put another flight at lucnh time today but no guarantee that will leave on time

Was lucky to find a hotel

Am thinking of transferring to a flight ot Canberra and then drving home from thee or just driving home sydney

Although frustrated I understand and being someone who has a fear of flying well....

Bus trip would be because the club is too tight to fork out for accom.
Bzzzzzz - Bad Call if true

Its true.
If we were Carlton, there would be a private jet to the rescue

Clueless & not true

Not much accommodation up here last night let me tell you

I was very lucky to get a hotel room last night

The drive from Sydney to Melb is a whole lot better than flying to Canberra, WP. Faster too!

I do it about 4 times a year. It takes 10.5 hours with three stops for coffee thrown in and three sets of roadworks to slow you down

Its a very very poor decision. Dont know who made it, but its a terrible decision and shows a lack of patience and professionalism in some ways. Not good after the Darwin fiasco IMHO.

Not so sure that the bus trip was a bad call.  This is the latest from Ben Sandilands on Crikey

"There is also an issue of communication between the airlines and their passengers. While Virgin Australia says it has resumed flights by 7 am today on the ash affected routes it has canceled a number of those flights and ground staff are telling passengers there could be extensive delays, meaning the situation is the same as it appears to be at Qantas and Jetstar from mid-morning, although Qantas has not committed to restoring flights, but only to no operations before mid-morning."

8 flights landed in melb from syd before 11.00 today, fact, you can check on the melbourne airport site
You would assume that Virgin and the AFL would work closely behind the scences to ensure there ""priority customers"" would be looked after.
Interesting as well that Rex Airlines last night was still flying at lower levels after the bigger players had pulled the pin.

“With the uncertainty about when planes would be operating at Melbourne Airport, we decided the best course of action would be to use a different form of transport,” Richmond Football Manager Ross Monaghan said.

“Due to the limited information we had after the match, we did not want to take the risk that we would need an extended stay in Sydney, particularly with a six-day break before our next match.

“There was no real disruption to the players after the match.  We secured accommodation quickly and they were able to rest from yesterday’s match, ensuring the players returned to Melbourne today to begin preparations for next week’s match.”

“The staff at the Intercontinental Hotel did an excellent job, ensuring our needs were met at short notice.
