Essendon and the media love in
« on: July 01, 2011, 07:49:08 AM »
The Essendon fall from grace has been spectacular this year. Need I remind everyone, after being widely trumpeted as top 4 certainties, and possible premiership threats, they have lost to:-

Hawthorn by 65 pts
North by 21 pts
Melb by 33 pts
Freo by 34 pts
Richmond by 16pts

Their last win was 7 rounds ago against Brisbane.

Yet all forms of the media have remained particularly friendly. Why? Where is the public scrutiny afforded to other clubs?

Their impending loss against Geelong on Saturday night will mean 2 months without a win.

My question is, how much does Essendon have to be belted by for the media to begin to turn on the club, and their list management/coaching appointments?

80 points? 100 points? More?

First year coach always gets a soft ride, same as Hardwick did last year we we were worse than Fitzroy.
Who isn't a fan of the thinking man's orange Tim Fleming?

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

Their supporters are not fooled, don't think a lack of scrutiny by the media has phased their opinions :-)

Yeah but another big loss by the Bummers in a game where both clubs would have pencilled in at the start of the year will surely get the scribes pens moving in on the 3040 postcode and asking scathing questions.

Clearly played above themselves and had this game singled out for a long time. Built up for it internally and got the choccys. I think they will have a let down next week. They will still beat us based on the evidence of the two matches both teams played today but they won't be impressive. Pity the media will get back on their bandwagon and declare them back in town.
