2011 Players List Forwards or Backwards?
« on: July 25, 2011, 03:51:42 PM »
Just had a look at our list and thought I'd give a points score of development eitehr forward or backward. With +3 being big improvement and -3 being gone backwards alot, 0 being stayed at level at the beginning of the year and - being a player that did not play with us last year.

0    Astbury
-    Batcherlor
+1  Browne
-    Conca
-2   Connors
+3  Cotchin
-    Dea
+2  Deledio
-    Derickx
-2  Edwards
-2  Farmer
+1  Foley
0   Gourdis
-3  Graham
0   Griffiths
-   Grigg
+3 Grimes
-   Helbig
-   Houli
-3 Jackson
+1 King
-   MacDonald
+2 Martin
-1 McGuane
-   Miller
0  Moore
-1 Morton
+2 Nahas
0   Nason
0   Newman
+1 Post
+3 Rance
0   Riewoldt
-3 Taylor
0  Thursfield
0  Tuck
+3 Vickery
0  Webberley
-1 White

So with the big improvers IMO:
+3
Trent Cotchin
Dylan Grimes
Tyronne Vickery
Alex Rance

Good improvements
+2
Dustin Martin
Brett Deledio
Robin Nahas

Average Improvement
+1
Andrew Browne
Nathan Foley
Jake King
Jayden Post

Stayed the same (Similar player to 2010)
0
David AStbury
Ben Griffiths
Kelvin Moore
Chris Newman
Ben Nason
Jack Riewoldt
Will Thursfield
Shane Tuck

Small Backwards Step
-1

Matthew White
Luke McGuane
Mitch Morton

Big Backwards Step
-2
Daniel Connors
Shane Edwards
Mitch Farmer

Gone
-3
Troy Taylor
Daniel Jackson
Angus Graham

When you look at the improvers, It is quite positive. If you asked us all at the start of the season, it would be ugly but...

-Trent Cotchin would be injury free and become an A Grade midfielder.
-Dustin Martin wouldn't suffer from 2nd year blues and continue to develop and improve although be inconsistant.
- Tyrone Vickery would turn into a genuine KP forward for the future
- Brett Deledio would have another good year and in contention for AA.
- Nathan Foley would get his fitness/currency back and play 22 games.
- Nahas and King would turn around careers and make claims of contract extentions, gain some currency for trade table.
- Dylan Grimes would pop out of no where and become a potential 250 game backman.
- Alex Rance would improve out of sight, although still have errors but show promise.

You start to think.. Hey this year isn't all that bad.  :gotigers

I wont mention the "red" players.  :shh :shh :shh

I would have Nahas +3, Deledio +1 or worse (don't get me wrong, has been great but don't think he's better than other years and doesn't step up enough when things are tough, eg Cotchin against Geelong), Foley would be a -1 in my book and I'd be looking to trade him for a genuine ruckman. We need a ruckman more than we need Foley ATM. Thursfield a -2 for mine. White a -3 gawn also.

Not a bad comment Re: Lids, but I think he has improved this year hes been pretty consistent. He's already at quiet a high level anyway. +1 maybe more fair.

Nahas +3 is a fair comment.

Foley I had a +1 seeing at the start of the year there were fears he was finished phyically but hes played every game this year and surpassed 30+ disposals in multiple games. Thats a positive for mine.

Thursty I never really rated to start with, certainly hasn't improved, whether he has gone backwards further I'm not sure.

White I don't agree is a -3. He had a good start to the year in tagging out Yarran in Round 1 and playing some handy roles up forward in our wins. He go injured and has been missing ever since. I think -1 is fair.
