Fair bit of hysteria in this since he said it I reckon.
It's no secret coaches manipulate their sides to try and get picks, but until a player comes out and says we didn't try to win then it is a non issue.
And so there should be too. Of course everybody knows it, that's not the issue. The issue is that our fearless leaders repeatedly assured us that tanking wasn't happening when we all knew otherwise. And surprise, surprise, despite these admissions from Bailey, Adrian Anderson says the matter will be taken no further. The AFL has ZERO CREDIBILITY. I hope the media has the guts to turn the blowtorch on them.
Agree RR
The tanking debate is back on! Hopefully the debate about whether Jordan McMahon's goal cost us Tom Scully will re-open too.
There are 2 issues for mine as a tiger supporter;
firstly can we aim to get compo in the form of a No.1 draft pick (Top 5 at worst) in return for this flagrant breaching of the spirit of the game, I don't know much about the afl legals, but a lot of sports codes have a 'spirit of the game' clause they can enact if a club cheats or breaks a rule that hasn't been written yet. AA can't just close the doors on it this easily imo. C'mon Benny we need to get aggressive in these areas! Collingwood do not get all of their favours off the AFL from being Mr Nice Guys, they get them from stirring up trouble when things like this come out. C'mon the Tigers.
Secondly, it reveals the psychological damage that tanking can do. It is fools gold.
