Monday not quite so mad any more

    Confidential reporter
    From: Herald Sun
    September 07, 2011

GONE are the days of Brendan Fevola donning a nightie while gyrating with a sex toy, with Mad Monday labelled a "well behaved" event.

Well at least by Turf Club publican Matt McMahon, who had AFL clubs Melbourne, Richmond and North Melbourne roll in.

"The only reason we would have had to have called in security was to kick out Michael Ferrito for his bad moves on the dance floor," he said.

Fellow Roos Brent "Boomer" Harvey and Andrew Swallow were living it up with Demon Brent Malony and many Tigers until 1am.

They dont relax and have a drink during the season the poor souls.

The list gets paid a fortune to be professional, how did they go on the trip to Darwin?

Did the players set the itinarary for the Darwin trip? Did they run chook raffles to raise money for it? No, it was a club run event so if blame for unprofessionalism should be given then give it to the club!
About relaxing during the season, can you walk down the street without being hounded? Can you go to a bar and not be accosted by some drunk idiot who wants to belt you simply for a footballer? Can you get drunk without stories about the event appearing on the news?
Yes, so give them one day of the year to at least do the same!

C'mon GR12,

They are professional sportsmen. This means...

They forgo any right to privacy at all, even what they do in their own home.

They should be run into the ground, flogged, then run a little bit harder, constantly.

Any time they seem to enjoy themselves or have a joke/laugh they need to be publicly humiliated, and then run into the ground a bit more, as everyone that knows anything about managing people knows that happy people always give the worst performance.

It should be mandatory that after any loss each and every player should brood and sulk right through until the next game. This is how you improve performance, not remaining upbeat and learning from what went wrong

It doesnt matter how young or inexperienced they are, each and every player should be performing to a premiership standard for every game over the season. If they don't do this then they need to be sent to the naughty room and not allowed to let their their hair down after a long and arduous season.

Pfft whats wrong with these blokes? all they do all year is run a few laps, lift a few weights and then chase a ball around for a bit off a laugh each weekend. They really don't deserve to be able to unwind with their mates after doing this for 24 weeks.

So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

Although no one forces them to play.
Thats there choice in what career sport they play, in which they demand big $$$$$
If they want to drink every weekend and play footy, go and play suburban footy or Ammos

Jack, some of these fellas have just left school, are still at school, are living with parents.  They would hardly be the ones demanding big $$$  Most of the young ones would be like 'stuff, I cant believe I'm playing football and they are paying me' let alone worrying about how much.

well, the ability to manipulate others is questionable unless he has given his old fella a separate identity.

Most secondary colleges now have AFL Programs which help teach students the requirements and disciplines required to play at ELITE level.
Can tell you there are parents who have payed thousands of $$$$ to have kids as young as 12-14 going through training camps etc to ensure they have every opportunity to be an AFL Player.
sorry its there choice , bad luck, the ones that buck the system don't last as we have seen at Punt Rd in recent times

We have all heard the criticisms of Troy Taylor being selfish, lazy, undisciplined etc. Thats what happens when kids don't follow their dreams unfortunately.
And i would want big bucks too, the career path is not exactly long and fruitful for 95% of players.

What they should do too is get blokes who have been undisciplined get into a boxing ring and make him face a round with each and everyone of his team mates! It worked wonders at the Bears for Robert Walls!

Old fashioned (unofficial) military discipline, if someone hasn't pulled their weight or toed the line they used to do this OR punish everyone except you so they would give you a flogging later on.  Don't like it personally, it is manipulative and divisive.  They often got the wrong person too but no one would say anything.
