Malthouse walks away from Collingwood

MICK Malthouse will not be part of Collingwood’s succession plan, after announcing after the Magpies’ grand final loss that he will not be at the club in any capacity next year.

Months of conjecture was ended when the legendary coach said he would not be taking up the Director of Coaching role at Collingwood in 2012, despite having an agreement in place with president Eddie McGuire for two years.

It is likely Malthouse will step into the media with the Seven Network, while the Pies begin the search for an overseer for new coach Nathan Buckley.

"I will not be coaching next year, and I will not be at the Collingood Football Club next year," Malthouse said in the post-match press conference.

Rodney Eade will become an immediate candidate.

Richmond must surely ask him if hes interested in a Director of Coaching role.

Yes they should at least ask.
But I think Mick probably realises its best to walk away and enjoy life.... at least for now

It depends if part of Malthouse walking away from the Pies was Eddie forcing Mick to sign a clause he wouldn't go to another club in any capacity in 2012. If there's no clause or the only clause is he can't be a senior coach at another club (at St Kilda for instance who are still looking for a senior coach ) then yep Ramps we'd be negligent not to give Mick or his management a call.

As for Eddie, I wonder how much his Malthouse-Buckley deal destabilised the Pies' footy dept. this year. Premierships are hard enough to win as it is without creating unnecessary tension moving on a successful coach just so a President's lovechild stays around and coaches.

Just on Mick - he has been a great coach and knows how to extract the best out of any group of players but his one flaw is he plays favourites and rarely makes changes. Taking so many injured and out of form players was always going to end in tears. Then he kept Reid on Hawkins when he was getting killed and didn't use the sub until it was too late. Compare that to Chris Scott who swapped over Lonergan and Taylor in the 2nd qtr when Cloke was starting to cut loose on Taylor. Without Cloke, the Pies couldn't kick a goal.

That could be so but a year off in the media could stir the fire in the belly one final time given Mick has been forced out of coaching by the Pies. He'll definitely be chased in 12 months time by some club who will have sacked its coach.

Maybe they'll chase him but I think he'll follow Lethal's route into the media for the duration.
He's climbed the mountain enough times. No more left to prove for Mick.

Mick will not be at any AFL club in 2012 - he will honour that promise to C'wood

Look forward to hearing Mick on the wireless & on Ch7 doing special comments  :thumbsup ;D

FORMER Western Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade will join Collingwood's coaching staff for the 2012 AFL season.

Eade will take on the role of football and coaching strategist, acting as a mentor for rookie head coach Nathan Buckley.

Buckley succeeds Mick Malthouse, who stepped down as senior coach following a 12-year stint.

I wonder if it'll be much of a job or if his there just for someone to be blamed if Buckley fails.

Richmond should try and get him back to the club in some capacity
