A few egos dented in the Aussie side. They've played like they've been in holiday mode for the past 8 weeks. The Irish have smashed them not only will skill as expected but physically and with extra pace as well. The Swans will be telling the Saints thank you very much for Tommy Walsh too.

Like every year, this game starts off for me as some kind of quasi footy fix in the dreaded wasteland of boring  Spring sport, and ends in toal frustration at our  complete inability to handle the round ball.
At least in past seasons we were able to eventually wear them down with a combination of our increased fitness, and going the knuckle :lol
Tonight unfortunately we were just pathetic. I was offered a free ticket. Glad I didn't waste my time.
How exactly is this meant to be a "hybrid" game anyway? All the rules, the goalposts and system of scoring are all Irish. The one concession they could have made to the Aussies would be to  let us use an oval ball. If that were the case we would've smashed them.

Usually the saving grace in these games is they end up close by the final quarter but tonight the Aussies were embarrassingly bad so it was totally one-sided. The only positive is if the Irish fitness has improved dramatically to consistently match it with the AFL players and these floggings start becoming the norm then maybe the AFL/GAA will twig the hybrid rules to bring in more Aussies Rules rules to even it up again. As RR said it's really just Gaelic footy with tackling and point posts.

I'd doubt they would bring in a Sherrin. The Irish wouldn't have a clue with its unpredictable bounce.

Bigger players = a bigger thrashing for us.  The Irish are moving the ball around a lot better by hand and foot.  If our blokes concentrated on playing the ball and not playing to be tough guys all the time they might not get thrashed so easily.  I like the hybrid game, there are a lot of skills involved, well, from the Irish in this last game lol

Bigger bodies would have at least worn down the Irish and given us a better chance at winning the 50/50 contests which we got smashed in. Too many 2nd rate AFL players meant we never had the clear athletic advantage of past series and too many newbies as well who had never kicked a round ball in their life meant the Irish knew the Aussies couldn't kick long and had to predictably try and run it through the Irish zone instead which played into their hands.
