I thought Spud's plan A was pretty good. Note that unless you have a champion team one plan lasts 5 or 6 matches. Remember watching a game against Geelong at Telstra Dome in his first season thinking that he had got it right. At that point the likes of Torney, Chaffey even Biddiscombe could win a ball across half back and switch to the open side with pinpoint accuracy. In fact, I thought we played our best football under Spud in hiss first season, and we were denied finals by injuries. I admit that our plan A was based largely on fervour and entuhsiasm, but Spud's problem was that a good side needs plan A, B, C and D and we only had one of them.
I guess what I am saying is that I think Spud was better than his predecessor Gieschen in that he could get a limited side motivated for a couple of seasons, but he didnt have any idea past that or any idea of when to call it a day.
