With Richmond’s final selection in the upcoming 2011 National Draft being at pick 55 overall, here’s a list of gems unearthed by the Tigers in the later rounds of the Draft, since its inception in 1986 . . .

Nick Daffy, pick 49 in 1990 National Draft:  1992-01, 165 games, 181 goals, 1995 leading goalkicker, 1998 Best and Fairest.

Matthew Rogers, pick 37 in 1992 National Draft:  1994-03, 196 games, 162 goals, 2000 leading goalkicker.

Paul Bulluss, pick 52 in 1992 National Draft:  1993-98, 97 games, 20 goals.

If you read that list, then Greg Beck gets a few more kudo's.  Couldn't pick a top yen draft pick to save himself, but got a fair few late ones right.  Funny that.

Does this confirm we are using 3 picks in the draft?

I wouldn't call Nick Daffy a "gem"

Bulluss, Newman & Andy Kellaway as post selection 50 picks YES = good picks

Rogers was a gem at 37

But Daffy  :nope

I asked Emma Quayle on Twitter if we could take 2 ND picks and 1 PSD pick.  No response from Emma yet.

I think the only way that would make sense is;
- The player didn't nominate for the ND, but only the PSD.
- The player was rated higher than anyone still available at 55.
- We were certain that player would still be around at our turn in the PSD.
- We were allowed to only have 2 ND picks.

I reckon its a series of long shots and we'd be likely to take three picks in the ND.

Rogers was a decent player but probably about what you would expect for #37.  Daffy's stats say he was a "gem" but I (like many other Tiger supporters) just couldn't stand his style of football so a gem he is not (iohoa).  Bullus was............................well, Bullus.

I'm not sure there are too many "gems" in that list. Probably a reflection of Richmond's performance over the past 20 years that guys like Bullus, Hall, Hyde, Charles, Merenda, etc... were considered to be good selections. None of them played more than 100 games.

Richmond will have three picks in next week’s AFL’s National Draft in Sydney, following yesterday’s second list lodgement.

The Tigers will enter the draft on November 24 with selections 15 (first round), 26 (second) and 55 (third).

The Club obviously has a loose definition of what "gems" are  ;D.

Newy and Rogers were clearly two. Daffy had a great 1995 on a HFF but overrated as a midfielder with his blind kicks out of the centre straight to the opposition. The rest were battlers who as AT said summed up why we struggled.

Daffy 150 games, leading goal kicker and a B&F.

I'd happily take that every year from a pick 49, WP.

Paul Bulless was 3 picks later than Daffy..
Go Tigers!
