the only way you'd stop me living the dream is if it was found out i was cohort-ing with commoners, so, alas, I must end this conversation, but I will sleep well tonight knowing I can cross the class barrier occasionally without being tainted.

whatever ::)...sadly for royalists the only thing they dont have in common with "commoners" is heart and brains...just sayin :lol

oh, right! Next you will be telling us that the lower classes should be able to become doctors, scientists and such?  ::).

I pine for the days when we could use your children to clean our chimneys.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

i pine even more for the days when such insubordination would result in a public lashing.

Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

Getting back to it and sitting comfortably somewhere between commoner and royalist....I used to enjoy the cocktail party, gives adults a chance to chat to the players without having to queue up behind hundreds of kids and looking like a bully if you didn't let cute little billy in front of you to get his footy signed . The kids, family, guests have family day, nothing wrong with keeping the cocktail party for those that actually fork out the money for memberships and have done for years.

Top post 2JD

IMHO the issue here is the Club has been running this event for years for FREE. Now suddenly this year they want to "reward loyalty" by charging people a fee without warning or any notification on any membership renewal info to attend something that has never had any costs to members attached to it

It has been handled poorly and it is disappointing the way they've gone about it

And BTW I am still waiting for my invite. GOld member inthe household got theirs today, me (platinum) I am still waiting - not that i will be going. Sorry but shouldn't have to pay - no one should

I'm a Gold member too WP and I have not received mine either.

If it comes tomorrow won't get it either till I come home from the game as I am going to the game from work and who knows what mood I'll be in when I get home and whether I'll want it. :shh

Scumbags - Knew when when all the log dwellers came out and demand outweighed supply they would pull this poo.
Junior has been hanging to go for years - finally 18 and COP THAT - Should treat "Loyal" members a bit better than that.
And just for the record, No I have never been so I am not a scumbag as such, it is just the principle behind this move that stinks :banghead - They have got their fair share from us for many a long year not much to ask for a couple of free beers  :banghead again

Where is RFC Offical when you want him? Hiding no doubt
There only savior will be a few solid wins starting tonight.although saying that.its a very ordinary effort by the RFC to charge when it's a rewards program

I will be honest I am not sure if I'm more angry about having to pay or the way the Club has gone about it or how they are justifying it

I just read this reply from Mr RFO on BF:

"First and foremost, we want to ensure that all members who are eligible to attend the cocktail party can attend. Last year we had around 1000 members who were not able to get tickets, despite the fact they qualified for the event, having been members for longer than 5 years. To overcome this issue in 2012, the Club have booked a second night at Crown, which ensures that we can take double the amount of members to the event. To cover the costs of a potential second event, we have introduced a small charge of $35 per person.

Prior to introducing this charge, we investigated the reward and recognition program at other clubs and found that Richmond were the only club offering an event, such as the Members’ Cocktail Party, free of charge to members. Combining this point with the fact we can no longer cater for the members who want to attend, we introduced the nominal charge."

3 points:

1/ As I said originally, if it is a Members ONLY event then why sell "guest passes"? Surely that allows for more members to attend

2/ Is there a 2nd function or not? Fine print on the invite (& BTW I still haven't got mine :banghead) says there maybe one not that there will be one. Original notice from the Clubs website says the $35 fee is to assist with the cost of the 2nd event. What happens if there isn one?

3/ Can I say I get really annoyed when the Club mentions they base part of their decision making on what other clubs are doing. Quite frankly I don't give a "rats tossbag" what other Clubs do, how they do it. We are Richmond and it's about how we do things that I'm interested in

Thus endeth this morning rant  ;D
