So Laidler is named on the bench. Was reported not to be playing - late change?

Actually think we get away with a shorter defence against the Scum with them having Betts, Garlett and Robinson named forward.
Think they have to have at least three small forwards at any time and that helps us with Newman, Morris and Houli back.
Wonder whether Judd will spend a lot of time deep forward and is that a chance to rest a midfield tagger?
Would have been worried about our height against the resting ruck if Warnock had been named but as it stands we get away with not having that very tall third (ie Griffith rather than Grimes).

On the other side of things, whoever plays on Thornton (Miller or Vickery) has got to dominate him in the air and punish on the scoreboard to pressure Ratten to swap Waite to the backline as well as forcing other backs like Yarran to help Thornton out.

Four new faces in Richmond team to face Carlton

BRANDON Ellis and Steven Morris will make their AFL debut against Carlton at the MCG tomorrow night.

Richmond tonight named 18-year-old Ellis on a wing and Morris, 23, in a back pocket for the Round 1 blockbuster.

The Tigers have also named two other new faces - former Crow Ivan Maric and ex-Melbourne forward Addam Maric.

Ellis was taken with Richmond's top pick in last year's national draft and has impressed with composed performances in the NAB Cup.

Morris, the son of former Tiger champion Kevin, has had to wait longer to fulfil his AFL dream. He was picked up from SANFL club West Adelaide in a draft deal with Greater Western Sydney.

The Blues sprang a surprise by naming defender Jeremy Laidler, who was expected to miss up to six weeks after dislocating his kneecap against the Bulldogs in the NAB Cup three weeks ago.

Just noticed they named Laidler on the bench. Any likelihood of that just being a bluff? On their emergencies, Davies and Collins didn't play. Collins is carrying a niggle isn't he? Davies however is a defender.

I noticed that Dwaino. The rumor was Laidler was still a couple of weeks away? They may play him as a sub, surly he is too underdone to play the full match?

The other interesting thing was Murphy sat out Carlton's training session today, he was the only named player missing? Is this also a bluff or does he to have some injury concerns.........To be continued ;D

Apparently (according to scum fans on DumbFooty) all of Carlton's injured backs were named to run in the VFL this week and Laidler was originally in the group. He didn't go away with the VFL side to train today though which would make sense since he was named. Their own fans tend to think he isn't ready either. I honestly think this is just a mind game to see if Dimma tinkers with any of the match ups or game plans. It's pretty clear though since the other two emergencies were Collins and McLean.

Also, according to Carlton twitter, Murphy never trains the day before a match.

Agree of sorts. I reckon Brad Miller could have quite a few big ones, he just can't kick straight!

Judging his Nob Cup it looks like he really wants to play. I love his build and mobility. What I like about our forward line is Riewoldt is the obvious target for defenders, but any of the three are capable of having a field day if left un-checked.

Nothing been said about Carlton's forwardline. Waite is ready to have a huge season and Kruezer could cause us headaches. The biggest problem though is the goals they generate from having their smalls run back into space created from turnovers further afield. Every game we play the Baggers it is Betts, Garlett and their midfielders who have a field day, not their big forwards, and this all comes back to turnovers and their midfielders cutting through our zone.   :'(

I think it was King  :wallywink on 360 just earlier (was only listening, had my back to the telly) talking about Carlton's midfield over the Nob Cup. He mentioned that Carlton's midfield have shown zero defense over the pre-season. It's not just letting one or two slip through when trying new things with some noobs on the field, but in a full dress rehearsal against the Roos for example, they let Norf run straight through the guts consistently and score against them. This was only 2 weeks ago and no games in between to work on correcting this. Unless they have a magical form switch, it should be our own mids and smalls from Dusty to Nahas doing exactly this to them.  :thumbsup

Just a quick question, who is there second ruck? I think it plays to our advantage if Kruezer spends the best part of the night in the ruck and not as a forward. For some reason I was under the impression Kruezer was going the be played predominantly forward?

Furthermore Hampson is a very ordinary shot at goal. :thumbsup

Shaun Hampson is their back up ruckman.
The filth have 3 Kruezer ,Warnock who we know isn't playing tomorrow and Hampson.

Hampson is a peg leg. Kicked about four points last year in round 1 all puddings as well from about 20 out. Then he kicked the one in the last quarter that put the filth in front.

Hampson is a ruck/forward. Thinking of Thorton? He's the back who swings forward if they have the talls.

I think.
