We need a power forward.
« on: April 25, 2012, 05:32:53 PM »
Watching the Anzac day clash today seeing the benifit of collingwood having the big Cloke up forward really highlights the importance of a power forward in the modern game.

Miller isn't the answer.

Bring in the Griff and teach him in the big league. If he can't do it then get rid of him and get someone else. No use waiting or him wasting time at Coburg when it may take him longer to develop there.
He already played a few games and those games we won we he was up front crashing packs and providing a target as a lead up CHF.
Cloke wasn't always as good as he is now. Took him a little while to get going but he's now the best power forward in the league. I didn't see collingwood waste time with him in the second tier competition.
Miller and Richmond is robbing Griffith of better development in the league that counts.

I say put Griffiths in the senior team NOW. Miller can spend the rest of his career at coburg using his strengths helping the other youngsters learn the game from a development point of view. The way it is at the minute is wasting time and is pointless to where we are as a team.
The club that keeps giving.

They might just do this and bring in griff, but in my opinion it would be nuts to do so,the guy has played slightly more games than Kelvin moore has the past few years,he needs time in the magoos purely to gain match fitness and a semblance of form..how about they give Vicks and jack a kick up the backside and get them to play to the standard we know they can play, and let griff quietly go about getting match fitness .

Was Adam Maric recruited as a power forward?

Indeed we do. Griff in (high CHF) Miller out. Riewoldt leading  hard out of square with Vicks nominally in the pocket but actually our stay at home ff - changing with Maric. Nahas, Maric and Whitey make up the rest. Jacko - to oblivion.

No great fan of Miller but he would be right to be peeved if he went out before Ty or Jack for that matter.

I agree CUB, but he is playing on the third defender ATM, we need to engineer a scenario whereby Jack or Vicks is in the same position. Hard I know but a fast moving goliath like Griff might be the catalyst. The forward set-up as it now stands is just not working.

Crap.. we need power backmen!!

We need our current forward line to stand up and do what they are paid to do, lead, mark, take contested marks, apply forward pressure and play the way they are supposed to play oh and the little thing....kick goals. Griff was recruited as a forward but has been injured and is coming back, albeit through the backline.

We also have old mate developing in the twos but he has just hurt his ankle.

Riewoldt was a Coleman medalist two years ago ffs....he needs that form again.

Our backline has no depth and we don't have utilities that can also kick goals, get that right and it may also give our current forwards a bit more support.

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We are just putting some cream on the top at the moment,” he said.

so just say by your logic he's ready to play next year and we find out he's not up to it. We've then wasted 2 years instead of one. The problem with this is in 2 years the rest of the team should be ready to play regular finals pushing for top four.
Play him now and he might suprise us all or we might know for sure he's not up to it. So we target a power forward in the draft at years end.
Butcher has played nearly every game since drafted so did Cloke. Many examples of this but we continue to hamper his development in a substandard competition. If he's that far away from being any good why are we wasting our time?
The time is now because it's not essential we play finals this year. But in the next few years should be our time. By the way it's heading, the team will be ready but he will be behind in development. Let's find out what the kids got. Give him 10 games straight then assess after that.
The club that keeps giving.

griffiths aint no power forard and hasn't crashed packs. lmfao
most of the work he did when he played was sacrificial.

as for miller being peeved if he is dropped :nope

when it happens he will take it on the chin. he understands what his role is and is the consummate club man. we just need a youngster to stand up and demand his spot with performances. until then miller keeps his spot.

surely a guy who has played as little football as griff has since hes been recruited needs time on the field to just get match fitness and find his feet and in his case keep his feet.In my opinion he will do this best playing for coburg. But hey i'm no selector so who know maybe the powers that be will so decide otherwise
