Dimma in the latest video newsletter doing a midseason review. See you email for the link to the video.

* At the start of the season if you gave us a 6-6 record we would've been reasonably happy with that given the tough draw we've had. However as a coach, the closer you get towards the top the more you look at the games you let slip. He was disappointed we let go the Eagles and Geelong games which were games he felt we could've won. The Freo game was another where IHO we had control of the game for large periods but could'nt get across the line.

* Last 4-week block - wins over Hawthorn, St Kilda, loss to Freo as mentioned, and a win over GWS. Normally going 3-1 in any block would be good but we were very disappointed about dropping the Freo game. We didn't play at the standard we set for ourselves; they went lower and harder for longer.

* The Bye came at a good time. Teams at around rounds 11-12 were starting to fatigue. Especially in the conditions we had to play in in the last two weeks. We have a number of indicators we monitor closely and they were right on the edge of our player fatigue levels. So we are really happy to have the bye when we did.

* Players got 4 days off over the bye to freshen up. To mentally freshen up is just as if not more the key component than physically freshening up which the boys no doubt will have.

*  Coaches over the break did a thorough two-day midseason review.  Looked at what we're doing well as well as areas we need to improve and we identified a number of those. One of those areas which people would have noticed is our efficiency or lack of in our forward 50. Something we will work on in the remaining 10 games and especially in the next 4-week block of games. To rectify the problem where we have inside 50 dominance but that dominance not reflecting on the scoreboard.

* Dimma also over the break caught up with our recruiting department. Did a bit of list management as well as caught up with other departments around the Club. Tick a few things off and see how we are tracking for the remaining 10 games.

* Adelaide game - The Crows despite the disappointing loss for them last week are one of the form sides of the comp. They are a clearance machine; a contested possession dominant side; large contested possession side. It'll be a tough battle in-close so we to get the ball outside which we do well and get the ball moving our way.

* Next 4-week block - a season maker or breaker. Need to solidify our position or it's season over. Despite the pundits saying our draw opens up now, we know from this season that if you are off 5% you'll get beaten. The improvement will come from our key forwards who have been competitive but haven't hit their straps yet or being at the level we'd like. Dimma still feels our back-six can improve with more experience playing together - Griffiths, Grimes (who is back this week) and Morris. Look to those guys to see us improve.

* A good thing is seeing players at Coburg step-up - Elton was outstanding on the weekend and others stood up as well.

* Wish us luck against Adelaide and hopefully we'll get the result.

It's interesting that for years all of our concerns here never seemed  to be addressed at the club by TW, Spud etc. Now the club/coaches are not only aware but also let us all know they are seeking to correct them. We have been bemoaning the lack of conversion between forward 50 entries and score board pressure for weeks and sure enough they are  seeking to tactically fix the problem. I continue to be impressed by our direction  :cheers

Dimma again this week with his review of the Adelaide and Melbourne games etc ...

* Adelaide game - thought our intensity was good early but it fell away as the game went along especially in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

* Last 3 weeks the opposition has scored with an accuracy of 80% which is some kind of record. We've been giving the opposition to many easy corridor shots so we need to work on that.

* Dimma was pleased with our defensive efforts. We've conceded the 2nd least inside 50s (avg. 45 per game) which is a significant improvement on last year.

* In the Melbourne game we had 36 scoring shots which is pleasing but our inaccuracy hurt us obviously. We kicked 5.10 from set shots within the corridor so that was really disappointing. So we kept the scoreboard closer than we would've liked. Something to work on over the next 4 weeks.

* It's that time of year when injuries and suspensions start to bite so we needs other to step up.
Dimma was pleased with ...
Conca who was outstanding in the way he played
Ellis took another step forward
Derickx's desperation and intensity around the contest was good. He got a little bit tired towards the end but we were pleased with his output. His ruckwork was quite good.
McGuane - contributed with 2.2. Probably should have had 4 and fluffed another handballing to Jack in the goalsquare.

* Gold Coast game - lost up there last year but we feel better placed this time around. Just need to get back to playing our best and lifting our intensity. Nice to get the players up there training in the Sun.

* We just need to hang tough over the next few rounds because Jackson and Martin will be back next week and Moore will get another game under his belt. Just need to grind out wins as this month is the make or break month for sides aiming for finals.

We've been beaten by opposition in last quarters over the past 5 games
Too many easy shots at goal and hence opposition get accurate scores at the same time were been butchering the ball in fwd line

We are handicapped at the moment and coaching staff are under the pump
No excuses playing Pia against Adelaide
Still a coaching stuff up since we have a youth policy :shh

Dimma this week discusses the Gold Coast and North losses:

* Last two weeks disappointing to go down by a kick in each match.

* Down to 30 players to choose from each week. Basically we've run out of midfielders so we are just hanging on.

* Gold Coast game - poor intensity in the first half. Everyone mentions the final six minutes costing us but the game was gone in the first half. Credit to our boys for fighting back but a lesson in you can't be that poor in a first half against any side desperate for a win.

* North game - improved effort. Dimma mentioned the players took control from a leadership point of view. However still areas we need to work on - Our disposal efficiency was at its lowest in 12 months. We kicked at just 39% in the back half in the last quarter. We also had our most forward-half turnovers in 12 months. These are things we can work on to correct.

* Positives - form of Ellis, Conca and Morris.

* Another thing that has hurt us has been suspensions - White, Jackson and Martin. So our discipline needs to improve. We gave away 5 goals from free kicks and 3 of those from 50m penalities. In a 4 point game those undisciplined acts cost you the game. This is something we can control and stamp out of our game.

* Still aiming for finals. We go in confident of winning every one of the remaining six games.

* No bigger game than this week against Carlton. We haven't beaten them under his (Dimma's) tenure so far so we want to get one up on them. Even though it's an away game (gate shared) Dimma wants the Tiger Army to show up and get the boys across the line. Drew Petire mentioned how loud our fans were when a free kick didn't go our way.

Obviously the final 6 minutes didn't cost us. And it's not like you can blame the first half when we were 2 goals up with 30secs to go. Come on Dimma.

play like we did in the second 1/2 for the whole game and GC would have needed 10 goals in the last 6 minutes to win.

when you play that poorly for a half of footy and you loose, that is the main reason.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

Dimma again in this week's email clip for members (ed. check your email inbox for the video link) ...

* A funny couple of weeks. Firstly a disappointing narrow loss to Carlton which we haven't beaten under his (Dimma's) tenure. We just didn't play well enough for long enough. Intensity was down and in the last couple of minutes we have a couple of breakdowns in structure - one at a stoppage where Armfield slipped out of the back because our guys didn't communicate well enough out there. Then had an error from Morris who did well to get back there but then kicked it out on the full. Just one of those games like the previous two close loses that we'll learn from. As both a coaching and playing group we need to get better and address those areas.

* Things we've tried to rectify over the last few weeks:
(i) our ball movement has been stationary compared to previous. Against Brisbane we started to get our ball movement and intensity back to where we expect.
(ii) a different tact with our reviews on Mondays. Normally Dimma does a big team review but we've now individualised them. Effectively the player will come in with Dimma and the line coach and go through their individual games. Normally Dimma would do 5-6 of these a week but in the last couple of weeks he's doing the whole 22. Been good as he feels he can get his message across and identify the areas of improvement needed, plus he/we can put the onus on the players to get better in certain areas.

* Good to get back on the winners list against Brisbane. You usually give the interstate state a 4 goal start when you play them on their home turf. Brisbane we on similar wins to us but we always felt we were the better side and the KPIs backed that up. Pleasing thing is we started a little bit slowly. We built up and won just our second second-quarter which was a good result and then started to pull away. Disappointing that in the last quarter we went to sleep for a period of time; we lost our intensity; we lost our ability to play on quickly. We had seven uncontested marks in the midfield during that period but not one 'mark & play on' which was disappointing and an indicator we weren't moving the ball to the best of our ability. Pleasing thing though is when we were challenged we stood up unlike the previous 3 weeks. Good to pull away in the end and guys like Cotchin and Deledio came to the fore and we were pleased to get over the line.

* Noticeable from the game is we had a solid contribution from all players. This year one thing we can't question from the playing group is effort. They have given effort which is a good indicator of a good side. We've made skill and decision making errors but as we gain experience we'll certainly get better in that area. It's hard to believe we have the third youngest list and the youngest outside of the start-up sides. Every week we go in very inexperienced so we're only going to better for the games that we play.

* Bulldogs this week - another chance to stamp our authority. We believe again we are a better side. We need to though play as the better side. Sometimes you can go into these games unprepared so we are making sure we are ramping up the guys for this game.

* Last 4 weeks - looking to win every game. Make it a stepping stone for 2013. While our finals chances are still alive the chances of that happening are pretty slim. We want to go into next season with a 12-10 record. At least that will give us an indication we are improving first and foremost but that we have a nice stepping stone heading into 2013. Our guys will be up to play and we look forward to winning the last 4 games of the season. Cheers!

Would be a lot better if the person making the video bothered to critically review their own work.
Who really needs so much footage of a long shot of the back of Dimwicks head towards a screen display you can't see properly due to overhead lights.
Just take a bit more time and do the headshot direct of his face then switch to the screen footage as a direct feed when it moves.
You're already shooting the footage and doing the inserts, why not do it so people can see the action on the replay.
I feel so bad about criticising a good concept, but how hard is it to get a watchable product, in full.

I don't think he is releasing critical strategic Intel but rather run through standard defensive and decision-making plays. You could use the same footage for any side in the league.
