sorry tas but i cant let this go been thru it too many times. when we have all the pieces in place win lose or draw i will sit back and enjoy the ride. i dont want to go thru another false dawn this is where this freakin club has taken me.
i worry that a little success will see us do what we have always  done the last 30 yrs. that is do half a job.fair enouugh a lot say they acknowledge we have a bit to do still but i wont be happy until we do it.
you lot will have to put up with me for just a little while longer i think.get it right about two draft periods.

i totally understand where your coming but right now it just feels good to finally be on the right track. Development of Rance and Grimes has impressed me more than anyone on the list. We all knew Cotch, Lids etc etc could play but those 2 have come probably a lot more than any one of us thought.

I somehow dont think the club would rest and then start topping up the list, we have too many holes if we copped an injury or 2. I think once we get Astbury, Grimes and a fit Griffiths it will start to take a really nice shape.

Right now im more interested in beating the Saints and continuing our ride, rather than looking at our list. Im sick of being the laughing stock of the AFL its time we shut them all up and starting with those at shitkilda friday night

This game is more important than the Carlton game for me and any other game this year so far.

That club has shoved it in our faces for the better part of 8 years its time and its about time we shoved it back in their faces

The fact that the club activated the Port pick, indicates that the draft is deep, that the club thought Port would struggle.  The drafting of Darrou, Wright and O'Hanlon is pure forward looking.  Every visible indicator is that the club is looking at gaps in the list and continuing to plan to draft and trade for the 22/23 yo to fix those gaps and the depth.  Gets harder now as you cant promise guys games like you could with Houli, Grigg and Maric.  You could promise games to a HFF and maybe a 3rd tall forward, but if Astbury comes up even that is hard.

At the moment the top 16 are pretty set.  Newman and Tuck open up 2 positions in the top 16.  But the rest of the top 16 are all 26 and under.  And I bet the club probably has a way different list of the bottom 6 to what has been espoused here.  Team structure and playing to team rules is highly valued.

we're not all happy to just scrape into the finals claw, take it easy.

From where we are coming from, most are happy to see we are finally on the right track, this doesnt mean we all expect to see jackson, edwards, King, nahas, mcguane, white etc etc stay a part of this over the next several years, we expect the natural progression to continue and that over the next 2-3-4-5 drafts(actually every draft from here on in) we will continue to cut the deadwood and grow the list and with it, grow our DEPTH! Telling us all the bleeding obvious, is a futile excercise - we know -  save that sort of preaching for BF  :thumbsup
i will ask just one question.
not talking best 22 here . is our list a finals list. will refine it. take out rookies and say two or 3 development players who are obviously a way off do we have say 30 - 35  players who can take us to finals.are our bottom 6 in the 22 good enough and if we lose just good players a mixture that is of those up to standard thru to v/good will we crash and dive.
ive seen this before and ive gotta tell ya i carry on so much because ive seen us so many time think the job is done when theres miles to go. i can tell ya now if this rebuild goes off the rails there will be many of us who will say no more see ya later do the hard yards and see it right thru for just once in 27yrs.

if we all run around patting each other on the back we are all going to end up believing we are there. i will at every single opportunity point out to supporters that we have a long way to go. i will only stop when we have the depth and quality to have sustained success based on what has worked for other clubs who have had dynastys. sorry if i pee people off but i wont get burnt by this mob again.

you know what the obvious is we are setting ourselves up for another fall.

I agree with that, we've all seen this club do things half arsed for 30 bloody years now, but you know what? I dont have the fear we will do it again, Ive seen enough to know that finally we have grown as a club and doing things right. Not saying this football department team will net us a flag or that we cant do it better, but what theyve done is put us back in the game and I have every confidence in them that we wont deviate.

Do i think we have a finals list? Nope, no depth ;)  but we have a side that with some luck with injuries will see us give it a shake this season, which is premature to what i realistically expected. The important thing is that now duds like Jackson and Edwards are at least playing a role within the side which has seen their brain explosion hurt factor moments drop bigtime and has actually seen them legitimately contribute to the cuase the past few weeks. They arent the future but if we can get these types to contribute this way whilst they are on our list, all the better.

Like you, I think this draft is HUGE for us, just HUGE, I think a big problem we have atm is that the only young developing midfielder we have waiting in the wings really, is Arnott. We need to clean out a fair few and bring in 3-4 young mids min this draft to replace some list cloggers. We need to keep going through small fwds we only have maric and turner waiting in the wings, i have doubts on both long term, so how we going to upgrade Nahas and King? Im under no illusion we need to turn over a fair few, but geez we are playing some good footy now, so im going to enjoy it

like a pig looking for mud to wallow in during a drought, some will seek out misery to wallow in regardless.
you see you never get it you probably never will because mediocrity is acceptable to you.

the point being made the depth. we are all happy it seems to scrape into the 8 me im hoping we can build a dynasty that will net 3 or 4 premierships.

what is sustainable at the club. nothing

we have one ruckman there are no others up to afl standard.
we have one proven kpf there are no others up to afl standard.
we have two kpds there are no others up to afl standared.
we have no small/med  forwards of quality.
we have a limited number of mids  no where near enough.

look at collingwood tarrant, brown, reid, now keefe,  running back johnson, mids swan and ball ruckman jolly has missed as well.
they manage to win despite the injuries.
a comparable list would be grimes, rance, griffiths, our next best tall defender  newman, cotchin, tuck and ivan missing games or playing under a cloudwe would get smashed if we had a similar group out . not just by the better sides either.
name one genuine mid we have in the wings ready to come in if we lose a two good mids. who replaces ivan angus sheesh we have been there done that. or tyrone the squib lol.
who replaces rance grimes and griffiths there is no one. its a massive gap from our top 14 or so players to the rest.

we have been blessed the last few yrs we have had minimal injuries and at some stage it will turn around and all im asking is where does it leave us. what do we want mediocrity or something great.
how do you deduce that i accept mediocrity because i can enjoy a win without looking for negatives all the time?
most of us know where we are and what we need to improve.

But that doesn't stop us from enjoying the moment when we have a good win.

but you what do?

whinge about griffiths getting gifted a game.
request that half our forward line get dropped, even though the forward line just functioned the best it has all year.

Then you start a thread looking for and sprouting the worst case possible what ifs, just so you can be a miserable git.

what you don't seem to get, and probably never will, is that life is too short not to just enjoy the moment when it comes along, because there may not be another one.

whats wrong with just enjoying the ride?
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."
