Richmond has strengthened its VFL squad for the 2016 season, with the addition of three former AFL-listed players.
Former Greater Western Sydney and Western Bulldogs defender Sam Darley was one of 14 new players named in the squad that was finalised on Monday.
Darley played 13 AFL matches for the Giants from 2012-13, before being traded to the Bulldogs for the 2014 season.
He made seven senior appearances in a two-year stint with the Dogs.
The 23-year-old joins ex-Fremantle inside midfielder Jacob Ballard, and former Gold Coast Sun Jarred Ellis, as key inclusions in the 24-man squad.
Richmond's VFL season kicks off on Sunday, April 10, against reigning premier Williamstown at Burbank Oval.
The squad’s leadership group also has been selected, with Darley, Tom Langford, Ryan Gale and Tom Couch taking on the key roles this year. The VFL captain is expected to be named next week.
While several new faces will take to the field for Richmond’s VFL team in 2016, 10 players have returned from last year’s squad.
Second-year players Nick Mellington and Anthony Scott have been impressive over the pre-season, as they continue to develop under new coach Craig McRae.
The VFL Tigers continue their pre-season campaign with a practice match against Northern Blues on Thursday afternoon at Punt Road Oval. Entry is free, and the match will start at 4pm.
