No Conca is interesting.

Injured? Omitted?
He wasn't in the seniors because of hamstring soreness.

 :cheers

How long is he out for?
Not sure. I think he will be tested again this week and we'll have a better idea.

 :cheers x2

A matter of seconds: Your club's state league alignments

RICHMOND
This will be the second season Richmond fields a standalone VFL team after being aligned to Coburg for 13 years. The Tigers joined Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong and the Western Bulldogs as clubs to feature their own VFL team, in a move made possible by financial contributions from the Fighting Tiger Fund. The money allowed for more resources for the club's second-tier players, ensuring they're playing in desired positions when not in the senior side. Coached by Tim Clarke, the younger Tigers will again have more support in the VFL season with recently retired players Andrew McQualter and Max Bailey among the assistant coaches. Recruitment for the VFL list is focused around the type of players Damien Hardwick wants playing the senior team's game style so the ones on the Richmond list benefit from solid teammates around them. The VFL Tigers finished 12th on the ladder in their first season with six wins, one draw and 11 losses, and will be captained this year by former Carlton-listed midfielder Jaryd Cachia.

Richmond to field youthful side under coach Tim Clarke in VFL in 2015

    Chris Cavanagh
    Melbourne Leader
    April 14, 2015

RICHMOND will field a youthful side in the VFL this season as the Tigers look to give a host of recent TAC Cup graduates a run in their bids to develop into AFL footballers.

The club picked up seven players out of the TAC Cup at the AFL draft table last year — Corey Ellis (Western Jets), Connor Menadue (Western Jets), Nathan Drummond (Murray Bushrangers), Daniel Butler (North Ballarat Rebels) and Reece McKenzie, Jayden Short and Jason Castagna (all Northern Knights).

Richmond VFL coach Tim Clarke said all the talented youth coming through would make for an exciting season ahead.

“Things are pretty good at Richmond at the moment,” he said.

“We’ve got 8-10 kids that have come into our club so there’s a lot of excitement around our VFL team and also a lot of new kids that are on our VFL list. But there’s a little bit of unknown about how we will go given they’ll all pretty young.”

The VFL list, too, has seen some changes with 2014 captain Ross Young and the experienced Ben Waite among the departures.

However, experienced additions include Jake Aarts and Devin McFarlane (both Bendigo Gold) and former Northern Blues and Port Melbourne midfielder Ryan Gale.

But the big-name inclusion has been delisted Carlton midfielder Jarryd Cachia, who has joined Richmond’s VFL list in a bid to earn another crack at the top level.

“We want to give him every opportunity we can to give him exposure to possibly get back into the AFL system,” Clarke said.

Richmond finished 12th on the VFL ladder in its first season last year with a record of six wins, 11 losses and one draw.

While Clarke said he hoped for a more successful season in 2015, he reaffirmed that development of players was the most important goal.

“When you’re aligned to an AFL team it’s all about development and making sure we provide a really good environment for our kids that are coming through and also our AFL players that come down and play,” Clarke said.

“So we’re still trying to provide the best possible environment for that type of system. We want to win games for our young guys’ development because you’ve got to teach them to win games of footy and also to be involved in a winning team. However, that’s not going to be at the expense of development.”

Think its time for an overhaul of our development side starting with the dud who is coaching them. Can anyone give us some input into this guy? I can only judge him by the results, and lack of players pushing our plethora of spuds out of the seniors

You can look at our senior list all you like, but the root of the problem is our lack of depth. Look at box hill another GF and the development side yet another prelim.

What are they doing right that no one else is?? if its the players then sack those who draft them and if its the development coaches then lets get some new faces into the club.

Many on here say its not about winning or losing but from where i stand its about depth of which we have none, hence why we lost to teams like coburg.

FWIW Angus even though the Club's focus (despite what they say) with the VFL side is development not necessarily winning I'd love to see Choco Williams coach. Would be a win/win, development would remain the focus but he'd also strive to win

Alternatively, I'd look at Gerard Fitzgerarld who was coach of North Ballarat, 2 time premiership coach with a reputation within in VFL circles of being an outstanding teacher of young players. He was not re-appointed by North Ballarat for 2016 but they won 5 of their last 6

But I will say it again the most important thing we need to do with is improve the quality of VFL listed players. The majority of our VFL listed blokes are not up to VFL standard. Look at the other stand alone AFL sides that field VFL teams and the one constant is the depth they have on their VFL list. They all have at least 2 recently retired AFL blokes. We have none. This tells me that we are doing the VFL list side of things on the cheap, which isn't the way to go. Strengthen the VFL list and the results will improve. Keep going down the path of a 2nd rate VFL list and the result and the competitiveness will remain the same

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We are just putting some cream on the top at the moment,” he said.

Pretty clear we are some decent midfielders short on our list.

i dont know if

Townsend
Moore
Lambert*
Mrakov
Broad?

are decent or not, but at least they add to the numbers of mids on the list.

be it in the first or second team

Yarran
Rioli

should at least give us added flexibility

not quite dangerfield and trelor but fingers crossed

VFL season is way too short. Send North & Melbourne back there...

Tyson Thomas decided to play local footy with his mates a decision he made a few months ago.
