Midfield depth a focus for Tigers
richmondfc.com.au
Thu 08 Nov, 2012

Richmond expects midfield depth will play a crucial role in team success in the 2013 season, as it did for this year’s premier, Sydney.

The Tigers already have the nucleus of a strong midfield, but have been working on creating depth to allow for sustained effort over four quarters.

As a test of our depth - If you were to list our mids from best to last, in what order would you have them?

I don't think Edwards will play in the middle again, currently looks like:

Cotchin
Deledio
Tuck
Martin
Foley
Grigg
Knights

Conca
Helbig
Ellis
Pick #9 if a midfielder

imo we need 4 to 6 genuine mids to round out this area. working from a purely numbers point of view and ignoring quality and the fact in  my opinion  there  are some who should go.

based on the premise a side will take into a game somewhere between 8 and 11 genuine mids into a game depending on the adaptability of players ie a flanker who can spend a little time in midfield  ie  possibly nahas or a genuine mid who can play as a flanker ie dustin martin.
imo 16 genuine mids is a minimum.

i seperated the genuine mids from the primarily specialist flankers. i also put players into age categories ie junior = 18 to 21. development = 22 to 24. mature  25 to 27 and vets 28 plus i tend to just lump the vets and mature players together.

genuine mids
cotchin d
deledio m
tuck m
martin j
foley m
grigg d
conca j
helbig j
ellis  j
arnot j
knights m
jackson. m

almost half of our genuine mids are juniors and that will probably blow out even further after the nd.

hmm might start up a list management thread instead of carrying on.. do we have a list management thread.

Cotchin
Deledio
Tuck
Martin
Foley
Griggs (as outside mid only)
Conca

Not sure Helbig is going to be a mid, he looks like he's being groomed as a HBF

We are 3 or 4 mids short, then you have to hope that one of helbig/arnott can step up longish term as well as a couple from this years draft. Question marks on Foley as well

4 mids without 4 picks in the draft pls.

Use the other drafts to top up the ruck stocks.
