Richmond shoots down rumour it has signed former Essendon utility Kyle Reimers Al Paton
From: Herald Sun
November 14, 2012 2:39PMRICHMOND has emphatically rejected a report axed Bomber Kyle Reimers had joined the club on a three-year deal.
The rumour spread wildly on Twitter after it appeared on an account titled "Australian Sport" at lunchtime.
The account, which is not tied to any official organisation and does not identify its author, tweeted: "BREAKING NEWS : Richmond have just signed delisted Bomber Kyle Reimers for 3 years #afl."
The @aussport account says in its profile its purpose is "Reporting on all Australian Sports across the country" although few of its 1200 tweets report news.
No sources or follow-up information were offered, but the report quickly took off on social media.
It was widely repeated as a fact and spawned dozens of comments mocking the Tigers' decision.
But Richmond told SuperFooty no deal has been done with the former Bomber.
The club made its position clear on Twitter: "Contrary to some reports flying around this afternoon, the club has not spoken (to) Kyle Reimers."
It then sent a tongue-in-cheek tweet to a TV reporter who had criticised the Reimers move: "we still heading in the right direction?".
Reimers was delisted by Essendon after playing 60 matches for the Bombers, including just five this season.
He could have been signed by any club as a delisted free agent, but that window closed yesterday.
Reimers could still find a new home in the pre-season or rookie draft, but the Tigers seem an unlikely destination with the club already expressing interest in delisted players Ricky Petterd (Melbourne), Cameron Wood (Collingwood), Orren Stephenson (Geelong) and Josh Toy (Gold Coast).
Wood, Stephenson and Toy have all been invited to train with the Tigers in the lead-up to the draft.
