Pick 44: Cadeyn Williams

Francis Jackson says:
"He's an 18-year-old from the Murray Bushrangers who only played four games this year at TAC level because he did his shoulder in round two but played on another two rounds and then had a reconstruction. He hasn't been seen much but he kicked seven goals for the Bushrangers against Geelong in round four, and he's got really good endurance. He's a strong-bodied boy who competes well and we think we might be able to play him in an inside-mid role down the track."

Cadeyn Williams' profile from Inside Football:

Kicked seven goals against Geelong early in the year and was tracking well until he had a shoulder reconstruction. He would have played for Vic Country had he not been injured and a few clubs have been mindful of him due to his early season form. - Andrew Carson, Murray Bushrangers region manager.

What a gem. Great smoke screen by the RFC to not only get this gun to slip through the entire ND, but right until our final RD selection. Other clubs are kicking themselves right now :shh

I had him going ND#2 to GWS in my Phantom Draft  :shh

Steal!!  :clapping
And you may not think I care for you

Cobram's Cadeyn Williams gets call to Richmond Tigers
By Randall Johnston
The Courier (Cobram)
December 12, 2012

Cobram footballer Cadeyn Williams has been drafted as a rookie to Richmond.

Williams, 18, who has played in the Murray Bushrangers under-18 side for the past four years and for Cobram Tigers since he was 12, said he could not be happier with yesterday’s news.

‘‘I didn’t know how to feel (when I got the call-up),’’ Williams said.

‘‘I’m over the moon. It’s a dream come true.

‘‘This is what I’ve been working towards — it’s just surreal.

‘‘I had an interview with (Richmond) a couple of weeks ago and they called to give me confirmation last night (Monday), but just got the final word that I was definitely in today (Tuesday).

‘‘Some of the other inter-state clubs could have snatched me up before Richmond did.’’

The former Cobram Secondary College student, who only just completed his final Year 12 exams a few weeks ago, arrived in Melbourne last night and will have his first day of training at Richmond’s Punt Rd headquarters today.

Williams is pleased he has been signed by Richmond, as opposed to an interstate club.

‘‘Richmond is one of the best up-and-coming clubs, so I’m really excited,’’ he said.

The hard-working utility is comfortable and has experience playing all positions and underwent a shoulder reconstruction in May after landing on his arm — following a fall from a high-mark in April this year.

‘‘It’s all good now and I’m back doing everything (I used to be able to do) on the field.’’

Williams thanked all the coaches at Cobram and Murray Bushrangers who had helped him develop and improve as a player, as well as his parents Rob and Kim for taking him to training sessions and games during his junior years.

“I’ve played forward, back and midfield through the Bushrangers, so wherever the coach wants to put me, I’m happy to play.  As long as I’m doing my bit for the team, I’m happy,” Cadeyn said.

Heard great reports from him on Coburg over the weekend, in the best apparently.
