I played most of a season with a calf strain and didn't really have an issue, it just was more sore when I stopped which actually kept me on my bike and moving around. But then again I don't play AFL

But then again I don't play AFL Interesting, personally never had a calf strain but had a friend who plays basketball and they had strain. They didn't play for a couple of weeks came back and then tore it and missed the remainder of the season. The doctor told them it tore because the original strain hadn't healed properly
