Does Melbourne get all the takings from finals games?

SUNDAY'S elimination final between Richmond and Carlton at the MCG is the biggest week one crowd at a League final since 1972, when a top five was introduced.

A monster crowd of 94,690 crammed into the ground to watch Richmond's first final in 12 years against its bitter rival.

It eclipses the 91,900 who came to the 1972 qualifying final between Richmond and Collingwood at the MCG and the 90,370 who came to the 2011 elimination final between Carlton and Essendon.

It is also the biggest crowd to attend an AFL match in 2013.

The MCG capacity was close to 120,000 in 1972 with many more standing room tickets available.  Due to seating changes and reduced standing room that is now 100,000.
I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a record that is hard to beat. Certainly from my vantage point I could not see a single seat that was empty in the ground and I have rarely seen that in many a year. The only thing I can think is if there were a few standing room tickets that weren't sold.
The atmosphere was certainly electric.

I was in n6 and it was great to see the green seats in the members all full.

... the true force and impact of the Tiger Army, which made up the majority of the 94,690 fans at the MCG to witness the contest, was not lost to the players.

The likes of Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio, Brandon Ellis, Alex Rance and Bachar Houli described the feeling of emerging from the rooms for the start of the game, and the pulsating opening moments, in a special Roar Vision video this week.
