Riewoldt's Sunday night warning

RICHMOND forward Jack Riewoldt says players might not like waiting to play on Sunday nights - if the proposed new timeslot is introduced - but they will need to adapt.

The 2014 fixture will be unveiled in full on Thursday morning, but there has been speculation the AFL could introduce up to three Sunday night games as a trial next season, replacing the twilight fixture for those rounds.

With Thursday and Monday night games expected to remain next season, Riewoldt said players would need to come to terms with another new timeslot.

"From a player's point of view, it’s tough waiting around until Sunday midday to play your game of footy for that round," he said.

"I think waiting around until Sunday night, waiting until that 7pm timeslot, is going to be a tough one for the players.

"But I think we’ve seen in the past when the AFL decides to do something then they’ve gone and done it.

"The AFL is obviously delving into new frontiers as far as how they show the game and broadcast the game to fans."

Moving into the high-rating Sunday night timeslot makes commercial sense for the League, Riewoldt said, and it would likely help the next TV rights agreement.

However, the star goalkicker said the AFL would need to schedule high-rating games for the experimental fixtures.

"The biggest point is a lot of the games that are on these Sunday afternoons … haven’t been high rating games," he said.

"They haven’t been huge games that have been attended by the public.

"If they go down the Sunday-night path, they have to get the crowd in there, they have to get the atmosphere, otherwise we could really see it really petering off early in the season."

Jacky makes some good point here particularly about ensuring that high rating games are scheduled in the time slot. I would find it hard to attend a Sunday night game though as would most supporters so crowds would be down regardless.

RICHMOND
The Tigers have ended their three-year deal to play one 'home' game in Cairns, all but ensuring they will lift their presence at the MCG from 13 home-and-away games in 2013 to 14 next season. Having lost two of its three games against Gold Coast at Cazaly Stadium, Richmond will play the Suns at Metricon Stadium in round one before hosting Carlton in the MCG's first game of the season in round two. By losing to the Blues in the first elimination final, the Tigers fell to seventh and into the middle pool of six for fixturing purposes in 2014. There will be no return match against Carlton, but the Tigers are expected to play Essendon twice, with the 'Dreamtime at the G' blockbuster set to continue. Richmond played four of its last five games at the MCG in 2013 which is a run home the club would love to replicate. - Nathan Schmook

Doesn't the draw usually leak today? OER?

Do you have any proof that this has happened in past years?
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

So what so you call all the reports that have been posted on here in the last few weeks been?

The only things that get leaked to the media are round 1 and the odd other game eg like the HUN's report this morning about Saints -v- Pies

"Oh yes I am a dreamer, I still see us flying high!"

We play North Melbourne on a Sunday Night in Round 12.

AFL reveals 2014 fixture

    Jon Ralph
    From: Herald Sun
    October 30, 2013 10:00PM

AN ANZAC Day bonanza involving nine hours of football in two countries and three time zones will be unveiled by the AFL today.

The Herald Sun understands Fremantle has been awarded an Anzac Day clash which follows the traditional Collingwood-Essendon match and St Kilda’s New Zealand game.

It means fans will be able to enjoy an afternoon MCG blockbuster, the 5pm Wellington clash between the Saints and Brisbane, and then Patersons Stadium late show.

Anzac Day falls on a Friday, so the league has been able to accommodate Fremantle’s request for its Len Hall game against North Melbourne.

The AFL will today release its full fixture for a record 25-week home-and-away season culminating in a September 27 day Grand Final.

But while a raft of premiership contenders means many blockbuster games, the season will kick off with a whimper because of the unavailability of the MCG and Adelaide Oval.

The Round 1 schedule will be split over two weeks and is short of exciting clashes.

Collingwood will open the season against Fremantle on Friday March 14, with Geelong v Adelaide and North Melbourne-Essendon other rare highlights.

It is understood Hawthorn will take on Fremantle for the first of two clashes in Round 3, when the Hawks will unfurl their premiership flag for the second time.

They show off the flag to their Tasmanian fans when they kick off their premiership defence against Brisbane in a twilight clash on Saturday March 22.

It is understood the AFL’s push into Sunday night prime time could be greater than first thought, with North Melbourne also set to play a pair of Sunday night matches.

The Roos will face West Coast at Patersons Stadium in Round 11 at 5.40pm local time — meaning a 7.40pm start in Melbourne — and then take on Richmond at 7.40pm a week later.

Three Sunday night games have already been revealed — Essendon versus Carlton on April 6, Carlton-Collingwood on June 29, and Carlton’s Round 1 game against Port Adelaide on the day of the Melbourne Grand Prix.

North Melbourne’s disappointing 2013 season will have a silver lining in the shape of its 2014 fixture — made easier because North missed the finals this year.

While the Roos are again forced to travel twice for away games in Perth, they are set to enjoy a soft run into September with games against GWS, Adelaide in Hobart, the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne.

North, which plays sides including Geelong, Adelaide and the Bulldogs twice, has been rewarded for its attractive play with as many as five Friday night matches.

The league is again expected to shun 2013 battlers on Friday nights, with Carlton and the Pies also on show repeatedly in that prime timeslot.

I think i'll be giving that one a miss  ;D

If they want to grow the game in NZ, they're going about it the wrong way.
