Why is it that some clubs win many premierships over the clubs history and some clubs have only ever won a few or just one?
I don't know exactly why, but I know that it can't just be solely player capability or the coach.
If you go by player capability, then the saints of the nineties should have won at least 3 premierships, same goes for geelong.
In fact Richmond at various stages over the past 30 years, has had the capability to win a flag or two.
Then why didn't we win any?
I truly believe that the whole club's belief is one of the most important factors when it comes to winning.
We have a great list, and EVERY player on that list can most certainly do better, no need to fill gaps with better players. A good footballer can be transformed into a much greater footballer. Every player in the AFL has at least got some talent, otherwise they wouldn't be there, so therefore they have the ability to become very good. This is what is needed to win a premiership, ALL very very good players, not just a few greats.
Just about every clubs list in the AFL today has the capabilities to win a flag, it is all about how it is all presented.
Professionalism is a key point to any achievable goal, premierships being that goal.
Every aspect of every club needs to be extremely focused and have the most amazing thirst to win that premiership, for it to occur. Every player, every board member and every coach. Along with every thing else that goes on within the club.
Hone every player to be better than the best they can be, then hone them some more.
Some knob in American, said something like players are made by the off season training, sorry can't remember what it was. But anyway, it is very true.
Don't keep plugging away at gaps, it only creates gaps further down the line (over the years), create extremely professional players to fill in the gaps with talent, that is what we need to win a premiership.
