Griff must play.

 :bow
Agree TBR.

Miles as well.

McDonough doing his chances no harm either although it's going to be hard to squeeze all our mids in.

There's a bloke (number 9 I think) who looked promising. Hope they squeeze him in for R1.

 ;D

That's Trent Cotchin, our Captain and a highly rated player in the AFL.

Would be a certainty to play every game if fit, I'd say.

Good professional performance today and put away that dole bludging rabble nicely. Wont comment on everyone but -

Ben Griffiths was good and is showing improvement

Shaun Hampson was good today and played his role well

Matty McDonough played well and seems to be a bit quicker over the deck. Also got more of footy. Well done to the donut

Sam Lloyd was good today and I prefer him playing rather than Aaron Edwards

Matt Thomas brought experience  to the team and was good in midfield.

Anthony Miles should play R1.

Major disappointments for mine

Dave Astbury Jake Batchelor and Aaron Edwards. I would not play any of the 3 in r1.

Good solid performance from a lot of the boys today, could tell they took it more seriously than last week. Wont bother naming the regulars who looked good,
encouraging performances from
Astbury, thought he got better and better as the game went on after a poor start and did some really nice work in 1-1's.
Thomas was right in amongst it and Miles had about 15 touches in 35 mins of football.
Good to see McDonough get plenty of it and get himself involved in the play a fair bit, lacked some polish and looked rushed at times but that's to be expected at this stage of his development. There was one massive howler he made which I hope he gets sprayed about, when he there was a 2 on 1 and he didn't shepherd which allowed the 1 pie to cause a turnover.
Lloyd loves to run ahead of the ball slippery customer.
Vickery didn't get many touches but he has an impact and
Griffiths showed some good signs both fwd and in the ruck.
Hampson gets right up there, already you can tell hes a vgood tap ruckman.

Pressure and intensity was a lot higher than last week, negative - a bit disappointing at how cheaply we were giving away goals for the first 3 quarters, probably wouldn't bother mentioning it ordinarily as its only a practice game but this is a problem we've always had.

Astbury was fine.  He's our 3rd tall.  Can't rely on Grimes anymore.  Batch was garbage, but A.Edwards looked alright when he wasn't in front of goal.

Cant see it with Astbury myself. We need Grimes to stand up and play.

Positives:

* No injuries  :thumbsup.

* Dominant midfield and half-back line killed the Pies.

* Goals from our small forwards.

* Challenged twice (2nd and 3rd qtrs) and were able to hold up and then kick away.

* Depth looks to have improved. Hampson, McDonough, Miles, Lloyd and Thomas played well.

* Griffiths had another decent game as a ruck/forward.

Negatives:

* Goalkicking - we kept the Pies in the game up to 3/4 time with our misses. A dominant midfield and 10 more scoring shots for most of the game should mean you're always comfortably in front; not just in the last when we kicked away.

* The Pies only threat today came from their big forwards with 8 of their 10 goals coming from Reid and Cloke.

Vickery at fullforward in the reals looks promising, just gotta teach the lad to lead out well.

Even praccy matches are great to win especially against the pies.

Didn't see much heavy tackling and the pies did seem to go at a fairly slow pace, so I don't think there's too much to read into the result of the game, just a good feeling of a win is good enuff for me at this stage.

The countdown is on to the start of an awesome season of footy.

Great summary MT
Your second last point is indicitive of all of last season whether playing a carlton or freo or cellar dweller like the dees. It needs to be fixed quickly but weve been saying this for a while now

Didn't mind the forward line without Riewoldt either

Just got back from the game and here are my observations,
we need Jack, Vickery up forward alone didn't cut it.
Hampson gives us something at centre bounces.
The doughnut is not too bad at all.
I like dustys role off half back.
lids  is pure class.
The elimination final should always be played at wangaratta.

Vickey kicked 4 goals. I would take that every week from him.

he may have got 4 today but with that sort of performance and out put in the real thing most weeks he will be a liability.
on hampson yes he played and rucked well. but jezus so he should have up against a 19 yo for most of the game.

Why do they throw Batch under the bus constantly playing him on 195+ players...unbelievable stuff!
