Richmond willing to wait and see on fitness of Brett Deledio and Shaun Hampson
Herald-Sun
April 07, 2014

RICHMOND will wait until mid-week before making a call on the fitness of Brett Deledio and Shaun Hampson for Friday night’s crunch clash against Collingwood.

The Tigers will also be waiting to see how Nick Vlastuin recovers this week after he suffered concussion in Saturday’s two-point loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Veteran Jake King also pulled up sore after receiving a corked quad against the Dogs.

The Tigers said yesterday (Sunday) defender Alex Rance had already been ruled out of the MCG clash against the Magpies as he continues his recovery from a foot injury.

Midfielder Deledio’s remarkable run of 140 consecutive games ended at the weekend when he missed the Tigers’ loss to the Bulldogs with an ankle injury.

Ruck recruit Hampson was also ruled out of the Bulldogs’ match with a knee complaint.

Richmond’s general manager of football Dan Richardson said yesterday the Tigers would have a clearer picture on the duo’s availability by midweek.

“For Deledio and Hampson there is probably no further update, we’ll just have to wait and see how the early part of the week goes for them and how they feel,’’ Richardson said.

“They would both be a chance, but we will just have to wait until midweek before we’ll know a bit more.’’

Richardson said Vlastuin’s concussion was not severe, but the six-day turnaround between games could be an issue.

“We will just have to see how the week unfolds for him,’’ Richardson said.

“From the reports today from the docs on how he’s feeling, he seems to be feeling OK.

“So we would be hopeful he’d be OK, but it’s obviously a Friday night game so we’ll test him later in the week’’

Similarly, the Tigers would wait to see how King recovered during the week.

“Jake King is pretty sore,’’ Richardson said. “A corky in the quad is his main concern, a decent cork, so again we’ll just have to see how that goes during the week.’’

Richardson said Rance was likely to miss another two weeks.

“Rancey won’t be available this week,’’ Richardson said.

“I think (he’ll miss) another two (weeks). It’s hard to put a timeline on it, it just depends on how the healing is going.’’
