When its all set and done, dropping players and bringing others in is just shifting the deck chairs on the titanic.
Its the titanic that needs to be fixed as many here have alluded

I'm all for the axe to swing. Season is gone. Time to blood some more kids.

Changes:
Hampson out - Stephensen in (couldn't possibly do any worse)
Astbury inj - Darrou in (need to see if this kid can play)
Chaplin out - Grimes in (couldn't possibly do any worse)
Vickery out - Elton in (need to see if this kid can play)
Ellis out - Miles/Arnot in (couldn't possibly do any worse)
Grigg out - Helbig/Petterd in (couldn't possibly do any worse)

Would be happy with any of those changes...

OK, I've settled a little now so can probably make more rational selections now rather than -'get rid of half the team they are all rubbish!!!'

So here are my selections -

Out: Astbury, Vickery, Grigg, Cotchin

In: Grimes, McBean, Miles, Thomas

Very lucky to survive - Chaplin, Houli & Ellis

A question for those in the know. Why isn't Thomas being played. He is at least tough and hard and provides a contest. Maybe his disposal isn't the best BUT same as Tucky, just get him to feed it to one of our better disposal players such as Vickery or Hampson? FFS he can't be any worse than those 2. After Saturday I was disillusioned, disappointed and disheartened. The 3 D's and who were we beaten by? The D's! How Ironic.
100% agree for Miles to be promoted. Our club is a laughing stock and disgrace. (another D). Play the kids. Even throw Jack R out. He is just not performing or producing.

Why aren't we playing a shyte, slow, unskilled recycled hack? Well seeing as he ticks most of Hardwick's boxes, that is a good question indeed.

I am not "in the know" but IMHO its players like Thomas and the strategy in bringing these types to the club is the reason we find ourselves in the mess we currently sit in

It is these "mature" re-cycled players that offer us nothing long term, prevents the likes of Miles, McIntosh, Helbig etc getting senior exposure and for us to see if they are going to make it. Miles was a good rookie decision because he is young and long term is an option. Thomas isn't.

Pity that those in change refuse to promote him

If we were in the "window" of being close to flag then yeah a Thomas is good idea but facts are we aren't anywhere near that. But like what happened back after finals in 2001 the footy dept and the club believed we were closer to ultimate success than what we clearly are. And we drafter/traded according to that. Thats what we've done in the last 2 years and it is now biting us

Yes Thomas is tough at the contest but that's about it. His disposal is terrible and his decision making not much better. He was recruited supposedly as a back up if we sustained a lot of injuries, again clearly that isn't the case because he got games ahead of others at the start of the season. Throw in the fact he was promoted before Miles shows that the "backup" theory was just a ruse

You want to flick Hampson & Vickery then you replace then with Elton, Dea, etc not recycled players

Here I go again -
Outs:-  Grigg, Houli, Hampson, Chaplin, Astbury (injured, onto LTI for the season).
Ins:-  Arnot, Dea, Miles (after elevation for Astbury), Elton, Pettard.

Rain is a real possibility in Sydney, so go small, gutsy & solid where possible.
Griffiths plays ruck, changes with Elton.  Would even consider McBean instead of Elton.  McBean is a mega-tall, but his mobility & ground play is better than Elton in the wet.  Either are better than Hampson rucking.  Ivan next week & Griff goes to CHF ....

Fingers crossed Cotchin is ok ...   :pray  If not go with Thomas.
Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!  Loud, proud & dangerous!

Thomas got plenty of the ball Saturday but he make so many shocking decisions which resulted in turn overs. Only kicks as a last resort and is too happy handball the ball even though team mates are under pressure.

Jackstar is back!!!

for me id like to see the following side. i know it wont happen but it is time to draw the line in the sand and set the bar at the very minimum we are prepared to cop. for me no more pea hearts if possible if you dont go when its your turn if you refuse to tackle and chase and work when we dont have the ball then see ya later. if you cant learn from your mistakes and continue to make the same howlers week after week see ya later its unacceptable.
7 outs and even then theres a few still there who could be in with the others.

fb/ morris - rance - grimes
hb/ dea - elton - helbig

c/  deledio - vlastuin - conca
r/ hampson - cotchin - miles.

hf/ lennon - griffiths - martin.
ff/ lloyd - riewoldt - a edwards.

int/ jackson - thomas - foley - mcdonough.

that is 7 ins. dea, elton, helbig, grimes, a edwards, miles, thomas.
outs grigg, houli, vickery, ellis, s edwards, astbury, chaplin. astbury aside that accounts for the majority of weak soft pricks or those who continually fold under pressure.. fair dinkum thomas may turn it over but he will at least have a real dip and put it all on the line. just have him do the inside bullocking work and plan accordingly.
reckon azza edwards deserves a go as well he compliments the talls we have fwd.
the other one people will jump up and down about is foley staying,  but i reckon for the first time in a while some of the signs were good.

Agree about Foley, Claw. I thought he played OK and  showed some signs that a bit of his explosiveness is back. That is his weapon.

I'm pretty happy Vlastuin is out. We will lose now which is a positive for draft picks, the lower the better as we simply aren't good enough and have a 9-16 side

The Barometer - Round 10
Herald-Sun
May 20, 2014

RICHMOND

ON THE BLOCK: This could be a long list. Skipper Trent Cotchin (ankle) is confident he’ll be right to play despite coach Damien Hardwick taking a more conservative approach. So many players were disappointing against Melbourne and for many it’s a serious trend. Troy Chaplin and Bachar Houli are leaders at the club but they aren’t showing it on the field, Ty Vickery is Ty Vickery, Shaun Grigg can find the pill but butchers it, Ben Griffiths shows signs but can’t put four quarters together, Brandon Ellis has stalled in his development and Steve Morris might not be able to cut it at this level. There will be one forced change against the Giants with luckless defender David Astbury — one of the few Tiger improvers this year — out with another knee injury.

ON THE CUSP: Damien Hardwick says he will reward VFL form so you can put the house on Anthony Miles being promoted from the rookie list to take on his old side. He had another 32 touches against Box Hill on Saturday as did Matt Thomas — and at least you can rely on those two to put their heads over the ball. Dylan Grimes will replace Astbury while Ricky Petterd and Brad Helbig were in the best again and Ivan Maric got through a half OK, but Hardwick says he needs a couple more weeks to be ready for AFL action.

AL PATON’S FORECAST: Oh boy. Forget finals calculations, the Tigers need to figure out how to play a winning brand of football. The slick transition that made Richmond great to watch in 2013 has disappeared, but then it’s hard to get the game on your terms if you can’t win the footy in the first place. Maybe some players thought the improvement curve of the past four years would continue and forgot that requires hard work. Some hard questions will be asked at Punt Rd this week and if there isn’t a response against GWS there could be a nationwide power failure as microwaves go into a membership-frying meltdown.
