A Captain
« on: June 09, 2014, 11:10:43 AM »
Have watched the Tiges since 1966 and one thing after last night that is clear is that Trent is not a captain
Who then ?
Bring this up for discussion
I don't like the bloke but think that Jack Riewoldt would be a good captain
Not scared to give team mates a spray
Demands and tries to lift the team
And understands the game
Anyone's thoughts ?

We don't have a single player at the club that could be considered captain material

Jako. He can do all the speaking engagements etc. Toss the coin. Snipe behind the play from The Cricketer's Arms and all that other stuff we don't do anyway.
Much like Mitchell at HFC in 2008.
Cotch can then concentrate on footy and being a spiritual leader.

I dont agree on this. I think we have reached the stage where we have to recruit our captain from outside. Like Carlton did with Judd. We need to get a big name player and make him captain either Fyfe or Dangerfield. If that doesnt happen then Id give it Ivan Maric even though the big man is imjured at least he has presence about him and looks like a leader.

I used to stick up for Cotchin, but I dont think he is the right captain for us. He would be better captain at a club like geelong where is surrounded by good players, staff and club in general.

We need a ferocious, demanding captain. Maric might suit this, or even Jack possibly. But jack spits the dummy too much and has a sook like that game where he sat by himself and didnt get around the players at half time.
Even Morris might be better.

From what I know he needs to be managed through to the end of his career. Thats what I heard.

And Id make Nick Vlastuin and Alex Rance the Vice Captains with Vlastuin the Leader in Waiting. Thats it.

How about no captain.
We aint got leaders so why bother tokenly giving someone a title.
When they toss the coin the other captain can call.
We aint lifting a premiership cup soon either. Obsolete position if you ask me.
Look at the second half last night. Any leadership there.
There was more leadership and contempt for what was happening on the bottom level of aisle 46.

Obsolete position at RFC.

It's very clear to all and even opposition supporters is that Trent is a great player but no Captain
Bad decision by the club in hindsight
