Dan Richardson on 3AW
« on: June 09, 2014, 01:06:39 PM »
Footy GM Dan Richardson was interviewed on 3aw just before by BT, Richo and Tony Shaw....

* A game of two halves. We spoke after the Essendon game about pressure and attack on the footy. We showed that in the first half but unfortunately weren't able to sustain it. Credit to North but disappointing for us to let that to happen.

* We went into kill mode in the 3rd quarter pushing Griffiths back. Tried to shutdown a couple of their players (Petterd had a lockdown role) but when you aren't winning contested ball it's pretty hard to stop.

* Comfortable with our recruiting model now. Didn't have any other choice during the GWS/GC drafts but to make our list competitive. We're now in a position where we need to take a step backwards to go forwards. Clearly we've gone backwards this year. We need to analyse our list and see which players will take us forward.

* Footy general manager spends time in the coaches' box. Dimma is a very good coach and very loyal to his players and they like playing for him. He was let down last night. Hard to do much from the coaches' box. When you aren't winning contested ball and North are playing like that, there's not much you can do.

* We can't look at list changes until the end of the season. Focus now is to try and get some respect back. More of the first-half play. Need our key players to step up a bit more. No doubt the realisation has come to look at our list.

* We're in a fortunate position that we have salary cap space to improve our list. We've worked hard on that.

* BT asked what do you say to supporters who question why you let players with speed like White and Nahas go? Dan Richardson replied we certainly let Nahas go and good luck to him at North. White left as a free agent - we wanted to keep him but he saw an opportunity at Port. We did offer him a contract. That's the nature of free agency.

* Cotch is not suffering any significant injury. He rolled his ankle last night and all players are sore this time of the year. Not playing at his peak but he's needs more support out there.

* After Dan left, BT asked Richo who we could go after such as Fyfe or Cameron. Richo thinks Fyfe. BT asked why a kid from country WA would come to Richmond and Richo said Fyfe still hasn't signed.

* Shaw said Richmond are mentally and physically weak. You would've known North were going to come out hard at the start of the 3rd quarter. The way to stop that is to come out hard yourself and kick a couple of goals to kill it off and break their spirit.

and what are we going to do with that? Recruit more Grigg/Chaplin types? We should be throwing everything at Fyfe and BT you asked why a country kid from wa would want to play for Richmond? Well he did support Richmond ya tosser

Fyfe is a must get if the administration wants the supporters to renew their membership. There were years when we were poo but atleast we had Richo. We could go to the footy and at least we had someone to watch. The least they could do is pay to bring in Fyfe, get in a young kid like Christian Jacksch from GWS to play as a key position defender and a couple of early picks and hope can come back to the supporters.

They're making it up as they go along I reckon. Just protecting each others backs. Theyve wasted good money on rubbish footballers from other clubs and they think we're a bunch of fools and that we will accept it.

OK, Danno ..... we're four games out of the eight and all hope of a finals berth is gone.

Are we going to play the likes of Hellboy, McIntosh, Elton, Beano, Biscuits, O'Hanlon and Flash and make an assessment of them in the big league?

Are we gonna send the players that need ops into hospital early so that they get a full pre-season?

Are we gonna persist with Axel, Petterd, Newy and Thomas?

How do we plan to find out who is capable of taking the team forward?

Oh, and while you're at it, it would be good to find a couple of on-field leaders to replace Chappy, Lids and Grimesy.  Leaders stand up when the chips are down.

It's a cop out to say we had no other option during the GC/GWS drafts for 2 reasons.

1) Last 2 years haven't been a GWS/GC draft unless you count 2 players missing from each draft as heavily compromised (at the rookie draft end)

2) No other club did what we did.

We're now in a position where we need to take a step backwards to go forwards.

I have heard that somewhere before..

This is revised hindsight BS Dan.
We heard talk of improved depth pre season. We heard talk of pushing into the top 4 pre season.
We heard of 3-0-75.
We heard Hardwick say we were a better team this year..

NOWHERE when I was forking out my hard earned did I hear we had to go backwards.

Dan you can go and get stuffed!

I'd hold off till the end of next year and throw maximum figures at Patrick Dangerfield.
Go Tigers!
