Caro just called for him to go on.

Congratulations on a great career, Chris.

Yes Caro said he has a lot to offer the younger players

Seriously mate show some respect! We have very little senior experience and Newman our former Captain should be afforded due respect. He has earned the right to discuss his future with the club.
there may be some good reasons to keep newman, not that i can find one. but experience and maturity  is not one of them.

quality consistency, and real depth are our problems.

Nah. We have Knights for that and possibly Higgins from WB next year!

what nonsense caro comes up with.if every player bar king who has retired went around again next yr we would have the following number of players at their respective ages at the start of next season.
24yo - 3
25yo - 4
26yo - 6
27yo - 2
28yo - 3
29yo - 3
30yo - 0
31yo - 1
32yo - 2
thats a total of 24 players who fall into the mature thru vet category, if we are short of experience on the list i will go heave.if we lack leadership and guidance with that number of players in those age categories it says one thing which i will leave for you people to figure out.
one thing for sure though, we dont lack for mature players who should be leading the way.

It has nothing to do with Newman's age for me.

It has to do with the fact that he is no longer good enough at the level and has little prospect of improving.

Very true.  He still has the ability mind you but just cannot produce it often enough to warrant a position in the team.

And hasn't really led by example in the last 2 or so years either.
Broke down in the final cos his body couldn't handle the pressure.
How many kick ins did he put onto the chest of the opposition 30 out?
A huge reason our back line would stagnate and go backwards as it was him that wod set it up that way.
A faceless former captain.
It was as tho he wasn't even captain.
For me, it's also about these things.

In his defense (sorta) his body was already broken down before the final. The club was soft and played him when he clearly wasn't right (ankle injury IIRC) and if Newman is the supposed leader people claim he is he should have put his hand up and said "I'm not right". Who knows what that could of done for our season this year with the thought of their former captain yet again not playing finals on the players minds (seriously, who knows with this group).
