35. Adelaide - Toby McLean (18 y.o., 179cm, 72kg, Oakleigh Chargers)

Position: Midfielder/Forward.

McLean is the fairytale draft story. Cut from the Dandenong Stingray's preseason squad, he gets a second chance at Oakleigh Chargers and grabs the opportunity. McLean starts attracting attention from AFL recruiters due to his ability to take speckies. One such speckie goes viral on the net. He further enhances his draft chances with standout performances in the TAC Cup finals, culminating in a best on ground effort in the TAC Cup Grand Final racking up 21 disposals, 9 marks and 2 goals which scores him the TAC Medal. All up McLean averaged 22 disposals from 20 TAC Cup games and kicked 32 goals. In the draft combine, he finished equal-third in the kicking test (27/30).

Crafty around goal, agile and a prolific ball-winner, his natural x-factor and an aptitude for development shows there's plenty of upside for McLean.

Mark Smart, Oakleigh Chargers: "Toby deserves a lot of credit for his commitment and perseverance. He wasn't on a list at the start of the year after he got cut from Dandenong so he came into our group where he didn't know anyone and kept chasing his dream. He can take some high-flying marks and his game awareness is a big strength, he knows when the ball's coming into his area and where his opponent is, so he's two steps ahead of the game all the time. His work in traffic and decision making is really good and he's really been able to handle everything that's been thrown at him in terms of playing as a medium forward and graduating into the midfield. He's had an outstanding year, he can do some really special things when it's needed and I wasn't here when Robbie Gray was around but he's the one a lot of people have compared him to."

Pick 39 ~ Western Bulldogs

Marc Pittonet (Oakleigh Chargers)

Born 3.6.1996, 202cm, 101kg

Arguably the second best pure ruck talent in this years draft who is highly competitive and aggressive in the contest and directs the ball well at stoppages. Has good skills set including his overhead marking.
