Since when does Arnott have good skills? Hes okay on his left (barely) but has no right.
Since 2013 I have seen him in a fair few games and his skills are hardly subpar. I keep hearing people mention his poor kicking skills, but that is a myth, maybe from his first season. Since then he's worked really hard on his game and it shows. He shows more vision than most players and dominates regularly at vfl level.

Good move.

Yeah stuff the kids - gotta get Newy to 300!!

I would have axed Newy too. As I've said before I don't think Arnott will make it.
I see you're a champion of the kids. You do realize this will allow us to take another one  in the draft?

Making Newman retire would have allowed us to take another kid, keep Arnott on the senior list, get a second kid in the rookie draft who - unlike Arnot, I presume - will only be on a rookie wage and get more senior games into a young player like McDonough or Dea next year.

They'll be a few clubs looking to rookie arnot  :shh

Still has a year left on his contract doesn't he? Pretty sure they can't if that's the case.

But we delisted him  :huh

Th contract remains valid?

That's why he's going to moved onto the rookie list and not just let go.

so the club clearly rate a elderly Newman over him.

What does that say?

Caracella and Balmey.

I personally think Arnot has more to offer than McDonough.
We need another inside mid, try playing Arnot there  :shh

blimey and there I was thinking he was a defensive fwd  :shh

...even in the less suited position of forward pocket, his numbers were actually not that far off King's career average as a small forward and in the match where he was subbed of after three quarters they were comparable to what King's returns over a full game usually were. He certainly tackles more than King ever did.

Compared to Thomarse he's positively Ablett-esque.

I really do wonder of the club stuffed up in bulking him up they way the did last pre-season

Always been a solid kid, but seemed to a little too solid in 2014 and don't think it helped him one iota.

And I agree with big tone, reckon he has more upside than McDonough

He's obviously got 12 months to prove it

I think McDonough has more awareness on the footy field and hits his targets with a much higher frequency.
On the plus side for Arnot, he is bigger and stronger and probably can bet his own ball more often than McDonough.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

One huge plus for Arnot is that he makes his tackles stick. He is an inside mid. Take a risk play him there. If he does not succeed will then delist but give him a go first. Last year he was dropped after playing a good game. Put games into young players.

Why would hardwick do this?

He knows he will get sacked if he has a bad start to the year

Much better going with a safe option;  gigg, Newman, Thomas etc

No risks thank you very much.

Bloke needs to play a dozen games in the middle as an inside mid.

If he doesn't make it, cut him.

Hasn't been given a go.

At 180/86 he's a real wrecking ball.

I wouldn't say they are poor but gee wiz I wouldn't call them good. He's on the bare minimum pass mark for me, and no that's not a "myth" it's just my opinion.
I'll just say I don't believe he'll make it but he surely does deserve an extended go in the midfield. Heck if you're going to put him forward pocket at least give him a few games there to let him learn what it's like to play under Jack's feet not just drag him after one game

Agree. No incentive for Hardwick to take a risk.

No more of a risk playing the kids than it is persisting with those duds.

Problem is that Hardwick perceives it as a risk.
