Soldo placed on long-term injury list (RFC site)
« on: May 25, 2021, 05:19:45 PM »
Ivan Soldo was today moved onto the long-term injury list.

Soldo is currently recovering from a left knee reconstruction and further MCL surgery after an injury sustained during an AFL match in September last year.

Richmond General Manager- Football Talent Blair Hartley said the Club was taking a careful approach with the premiership ruckman.

“Following Ivan’s two recent minor surgeries and the subsequent delay in his return timeframe, we have made the decision to look towards preparing him for next season and beyond.

“As part of that, Ivan will go away for a few weeks and enjoy some time off before coming back with 2022 as his focus.

“This also gives us an opportunity to improve our list next Wednesday night which we are excited about.”

Shame but probably the safest move for the big man. Let his new graft grow some scar tissue and toughen up before being put to the fire test.

From Burge's report:

"Ivan has been placed on the long-term injury list, so he won’t be playing football this year. The decision around that revolves around the two minor surgeries he has had recently, and the delay in his return back to training and preparation with that.

“It would have been very late in the season, August or possibly even September. We just made the decision knowing all of those things and weighing it all up that it would be probably better to prepare for next season and take the pressure away off Ivan.

‘We have let him get away for a couple of weeks, have a break and give him a real chance to have a full pre-season and off-season to prepare for next year.”

No surprise and absolute right call

As soon as he had to go in to have the medial fixed again it was pointless for him to try and get back. Far too risky
