Dan Butler (Richmond)

Age: 23 (3/6/1996)

Contract status: Out of contract

2019 numbers: 7 games, 0.7 goals, 3.9 tackles, 1.1 tackles inside 50, 20.1 pressure acts.

The expert: "Butler's real strength is his ability to get up the ground as a high half-forward and then reset back with speed. He's a really strong runner, with strong endurance and strong speed. His ball use around goal isn't always great, so that's a little bit of a downfall, but he plays an important structural role in the way Richmond plays. He's perfect for a team looking for more of a defensive, pressure-type forward who will give you a little bit on the scoreboard."

Carlton has met with Richmond premiership player Dan Butler as the club's pursuit of a small forward continues.

Butler, who is uncontracted at the Tigers beyond 2019, toured the club's facilities at Ikon Park on Wednesday, having fallen out of favour at Punt Road to play just seven AFL games this season.

Carlton have picks 8, 39 & 44. So they don't currently have a second rounder. IMO pick 39 at the very least should be what we get back. It's not like last year where we did a fire sale to free up cap space and bring Lynch in as a free agent. The Dogs ended up getting Lloyd for practically nothing (pick 64 from memory) which has been an absolute bargain for them giving he has been in their best 22 all year. Unlike Lloyd, Butler is younger, a premiership player (even if one now out of form/confidence) and would have multiple suitors searching for a small forward.

They'll probably try and give us some spud like Kennedy or Goddard..and still want to swap their fourth for one of our thirds as part of the deal as well...

If we cant get a deal to our liking we should delist Butler and hopefully Gold Coast can pick him up. We shouldnt be giving Carlton squat. stuff'em.

I think we're past the days of chasing the likes of Hampson and Yarran  . Although the Blues did give up a premiership ruckman in Griggy cheaply  .

If we got pick 39 then it will probably end up in the long run with us effectively replacing Butler with Maurice junior.

I see Jack Martin has nominated Carlton.  Now to me, Dan Butler is the equal if not better of Martin but I bet you Carlton give up their 1st rounder for him while we get a 3rd rounder for Butler.
