Richmond's system stands up

Richmond midfielder Kane Lambert says it’s "a very exciting time" for the club, as both the AFL and VFL sides gear up for huge finals outings this weekend.

Speaking to SEN on Monday afternoon, Lambert said the complementary nature between the two programs reaps benefits.

"It’s very, very important and I think the success of the VFL program over the last three or four years has been a huge factor for us, being able to have our whole list training this time of year," he said.

"(All our) players are capable, they’re all pushing their case."

The current depth within Richmond’s list makes for healthy competition for spots, but Lambert said the Tigers’ primary focus is "trying to make each other better."

"If it means someone’s going to take your spot by helping them get better, well that’s the sacrifice we make," he said.

"The overriding thing is to play your role whether you’re playing VFL or AFL.

"We’re very grateful to be a part of this football club. That’s all we’re asked, to be Richmond Men and Richmond Women.

"They’re the standards we live by."

As the Tigers prepare for Friday night’s preliminary final clash against Geelong, Lambert said Richmond will bring its trademark brand of football.

"Week to week it doesn’t really change too much," he said.

"We still want to control the game and play a Richmond-like style of footy.

"That means a lot of pressure on the opposition and win the ball back as quickly as we can."

Kane Lambert – 5

Didn't have a great night by his usually-reliable standards, with eight turnovers from his 18 disposals, but kicked a crucial goal in the last quarter.

Was very very poor in the first half but much improved in the second. Need him to fire from the get go next week as he is somewhat of a barometer for us.

Kane Lambert – 6

Flies under the radar a bit, but not among the Tigers' faithful. Lambert was again influential for the victors with 20 touches (10 contested) and a third-quarter goal on the run that really drove the nail into GWS's coffin.

KANE LAMBERT 7

Lambert’s tackle set up Richmond’s first goal and he then ignited the party with his own goal in the premiership quarter. Can you believe he was overlooked 836 times at draft after draft after draft?

A bit of debate about this now on the radio. Was Lambert's concussion just an accident or Cameron being "clumsy" again?

Lambert was forced from the field for treatment and Richmond's medical staff ruled him out for the rest of Sunday's Marsh Community Series game with a concussion.

Cameron's knee made contact with Lambert's head as the pair chased a loose ball near the boundary in the second term.

Whether Cameron's actions will be judged as intentional or careless by the MRO will likely be the deciding factor as to whether the Giants forward will receive any sort of sanction.

When Cameron stops to help a player up (Baker in GF, Lambert), it's a sure sign he did it deliberately. Fake concern.

We should offer a favourable medical report that helps clear Cameron

We need to keep the good will going between our clubs, despite what many of us think about Cameron

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

It looked bad because Cameron landed his knees into Lambert's head when Kane was already over the boundary line and lying on the turf. No duty of care or even an attempt to avoid Lambert's head.

ps. By the way what happened to giving a free kick for a jumper punch? Shaw got Floss in the head right in front of the ump and the ump just looked and did nothing  :huh.

Tend to agree

Does it far too often. I sometimes think the reaction is "sh-t I've done it again"

Whether it's clumsiness or not it just happens far too often

No case to answer for team AFL and Cameron. More predictable than an Oil Price crash today
