Damien Hardwick on Talking Footy tonight
« on: April 20, 2015, 09:42:23 PM »
Dimma was a guest on Talking Footy tonight.

* First asked about the inconsistency in performance so far this year - comfortable win over Carlton; bad loss to the Dogs; thrashing of Brisbane?
If your 10% off your game now days, the opposition will pull your pants down. We analyse games in much detail these days. We knew where we went wrong against the Bulldogs and rectified these things against Brisbane. No doubt we need to find consistency starting with Melbourne this week.

* Asked if he's heard the rumour about Rance possibly retiring?
Laughed and said yes he's heard about it a few times this week. Himself and Dan Richardson will sit down with Alex in the next week or two. Dimma said he's confident about Rance being at Punt Rd next year. When pressed as to why he was so confident, Dimma said Rance is playing fantastic footy and he's very happy to be around the place at Richmond. Dimma confident Alex will re-sign.

* Hadn't read Robbo's article about Cotchin and not sure if Cotch had. Players are so professional these days and we analyse their games thoroughly each and every week. On Cotch's form this year - Carlton did a great tagging job on Trent in round 1; Cotch was better in round 2 and he was back to his best against Brisbane.

* Carey asked Dimma if he was worried if Richmond don't make the finals this year?
Dimma replied, "we'll make it". We don't have the luxury to look at the big picture that far ahead. We work in 4 week blocks. We're currently 2-1 in this block and hope to make that 3-1. Then we'll move onto the next 4 week block.

* Didn't have a problem with Bernie Vince's tactics on Dangerfield. Dimma loves the way Vince plays footy. Expects that sort of attention to be coming for Cotch this Friday night and we've worked on a few things to deal with it.

* Asked if we were interested in Aish?
Dimma didn't answer it specifically. Just the usual we're always examining our list. He added that Aish is effectively acting like a free agent and he didn't believe young players in their first couple of years had earnt right to free agency. He felt for Leppa losing young players when he is trying to rebuild Brisbane's list. Dimma would like to see some power return to the clubs. We can't have clubs losing young players and receiving little compensation in return.

* Sub rule? Dimma said it's hard to work out how much gametime the sub needs. His preference is to have 4 interchanges.

Forgot add:

* Will Deledio return this week?

Dimma said Lids is touch and go. What started as something we first thought was minor has taken longer to get right. His start to the season last year was also interrupted. We've just to manage Lids' body. He's finely tuned like a Mercedes Benz.

They also put up a form ladder for the last 17 games and we were 4th behind Hawthorn, Sydney and Freo.

There's a shed load of RFC players and officials who are speaking on behalf of Alex Rance which must be starting to irritate him.
Stop speaking for him - I want to hear him say he's stsying. It's really no one else's right to speak about it - particularly if the so called rumour is true
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick joined the Talking Footy panel, with the future of key defender Alex Rance unsurprisingly at the forefront of their conversation.

Rance still hasn’t signed a new contract, with potential suitors circling. However, Hardwick remains confident he will wear the yellow and black for many more years to come.

“We’ll sit down and talk with Alex over the next week or two, but I’ve got no doubt in my mind that Alex will be in a Richmond jumper next year,” Hardwick said.

“We think we’re in a good situation with Alex at the moment. He’s playing well for our jumper, he’s very happy with where he is and I have no doubts he’ll be here next year.”

Hardwick was less confident on the immediate future of Brett Deledio, saying he is no certainty to make his return from a calf injury this week.

“It’s probably touch-and-go at this stage,” Hardwick said. “Initially it didn’t look like much, but it’s taken a bit of time to get better.

“We’re a bit disappointed with that ... But we’ve just got to manage him a bit more carefully going forward.”

Finally, he was quizzed on the sub rule, which appears set to be scrapped at the end of the season.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a major talking point among the coaching fraternity,” Hardwick said.

“Certainly, with 120 rotations, we didn’t feel there was the need for a sub.”

They get asked they can answer. I'm sure he couldn't care less what they answer in the media as long as it's said it good taste, hell I'd be surprised if he even hears about it
