After picking up Dusty at 3, I reckon we wanted a tall at 19 so went with Griffiths. Our recruiter stocks would've been still poor and well underfunded back then and I doubt we had a WA scout to even spot Fyfe. Supporters bagged FJ more for not taking Jake Carlisle. Fyfe went at 20  :-\, so every club overlooked him and regretted it if you look at what virtually every club picked up in the top 20 in 2009. Plenty of flops.

Just to add, if we had won just 4 games that year instead of the 5 1/2 that we did by winning meaningless games late in the year, we would've had a priority pick at 20. I, of course, had that infamous 'discussion' with Craig Cameron at the post-season fan forum about it if you remember  ;).

Yep we really should of taken him with our first pick... and not selected ....um.... Dustin Martin  :rollin :rollin

He went at pick 20, a lot of other blokes went before him. So all clubs didn't see him as a first round pick  ;D

Correct. WP jumping the gun as usual

Looks like big girl Griffiths impressed Hackson a little more than Fyfe

lol as did 18 other blokes.

if we take a skinny flanker who has not shown anything outstanding at junior level with out first pick will jackson be lauded for taking a punt to get the next fyfe, or bagged for taking another skinny flanker?

If Dusty was an on-baller roving to Sandilands he would have 4 Brownlows by now, Cotchin would have at least 3 ...    :P   Its called silver tray service ...

Very much aware that we picked Griff at 19. Actually looked it up

But the point is most clubs didn't rate him enough to take him earlier than 20 = Tigers weren't alone. So let's not let anything get in the way of nice cheap whack at the club.

Freo didn't take him with their first pick at 4 - took Morabito instead.

And BTW there are some blokes taken in that draft by other clubs that look more foolsih than us...

Butcher to Port (8)
Tom Scully to Melb (1)
Andrew Moore to Port (9)
Gysberts to Melb (11) - no longer on an AFL list
Howard to Bulldogs (15) - no longer on an AFL list
Kane Lucas to Carlton (12) now at WCE

If you really wanna get stuck into our recruiters, look at the 2011 draft. B Ellis at 15, absolute peanuts before with perhaps the exception of Wingard.

Dusty take note, get your act together and you may just be able to drag this club to a premiership a Brownlow and norm smith....I'm dead serious.....
