19 May 2018 — 6:16pmThe return of premiership forward Daniel Rioli in the VFL was successful on Saturday with the 20-year-old playing a half of football as planned without drama.
It was his first game for Rioli since he played in the 2017 Grand Final as he took an extended break after the ankle he injured in the flag win required surgery.
Rioli showed he had not lost any of his ability to tackle and chase applying pressure to create turnovers before watching the second half from the sidelines.
Richmond's VFL coach Craig McRae told Fairfax Media he was pleased to see Rioli back in action.
"He said he felt good and he wanted to play more minutes," McRae said.
"It was pleasing he got through the game without any soreness."
The Tigers ran out easy winners over Sandringham winning the game by 55 points.
Rioli is expected to play in the VFL again next week provided he pulls up well with the Tigers likely to extend his minutes.
