Slowly slowly long term is more important. I didn't expect him back until mid year at best.

Then again if his foot is healed it won't be more healed in a month.

But his match fitness and confidence will be better for it.

How can not playing for another month improve match fitness? General fitness yes, but not match fitness.

In Daniel Rioli’s return from a broken foot the Tigers’ young star has looked dangerous and applied his trademark forward pressure without gathering large numbers.

Having not played for the Tigers in 231 days, Rioli has three disposals, two tackles and a behind to halftime.

He is being was rested in the second half as Richmond continue to manage his comeback.

I mean firsts games vs reserves games where you can monitor his load and pull him off if there's an issue. I don't mean no football.

Rioli makes successful return

The return of premiership forward Daniel Rioli in the VFL was successful on Saturday with the 20-year-old playing a half of football as planned without drama.

It was his first game for Rioli since he played in the 2017 Grand Final as he took an extended break after the ankle he injured in the flag win required surgery.

Rioli showed he had not lost any of his ability to tackle and chase applying pressure to create turnovers before watching the second half from the sidelines.

Richmond's VFL coach Craig McRae told Fairfax Media he was pleased to see Rioli back in action.

"He said he felt good and he wanted to play more minutes," McRae said.

"It was pleasing he got through the game without any soreness."

The Tigers ran out easy winners over Sandringham winning the game by 55 points.

Rioli is expected to play in the VFL again next week provided he pulls up well with the Tigers likely to extend his minutes.

On AFL website has an article by Ben Collins "dated 19 May 2018 called "Tiger Rioli takes huge step on road back"

Only problem with the article is it states "The 21-year-old hadn't played since badly breaking his left ankle in the last quarter of the Tigers' Grand Final triumph over Richmond."

This guy is obviously well ahead of his time. In 3 years time they'll be saying that the only team that can beat us is ourselves.
