  • You have to think anyway, so why not think big? DT
Played golf yesterday with a guy who is very close to a player on our reserves list, players are constantly dazed and confused regarding selection process for our AFL team.
They lose initiative and desire.
Evidently a big problem.

?????????

"Our reserves list"?   :P

We don't actually have one. We han an AFL list with rookies and we have yet to cpmpleted VFL list

So which group are we talking about here?

The VFL list who rarely spend any time with our AFL list apart from once  a week when they train with the AFL list who arent playing seniors. Sorry but they wouldn't have a clue

As for the AFL players not getting games,  wouldbe less than 6 that could lay claim to being disillusioned
From our playing list then WP.

Of those 6 then, how many of the players who are getting a game realise they have to take up the slack of players who shouldn't be playing?
It all comes down to team and list ethos (if you would indulge me to use that word)
Development, belief, fairness, structure, solidarity, team.
Anything less and you create self doubt and internal dissidence.
Call it what you will, until this is corrected we cannot move forward.
We are talking about winning a final, that is a very mediocre target IMVHO
6 is the number you mentioned, that is a pretty high number and the whole playing group is most likely aware of it.
Not 6 each week i know but even 2 in the mix on a weekly basis is a disgrace

Not sure you can say  6 out of 44 is large number

Also would question who are the one's "disillusuoned"?

The ones who actually deserve a chance or those who think they derserve a chance but are in reality miles off
"Oh yes I am a dreamer, I still see us flying high!"

WP

always enjoy your comments,

a few points to consider
1. What % do we need to improve each year to stay with the pack
2. What % do we need to improve to gain on the pack?
3. Let's start with some numbers and use the elim final last year as an example.
If there are 22 players on the team lets give a % rating for each player at 4.55%, playing at 100% efficiency, now if 3 players are getting a game who shouldn't be there and lets say their % contribution is 2% to the team instead of 4.55%, that means each of the other 19 players have to increase their output by an average of 7.55% from 100 or 4.89% as a team average contribution stat.
The 7.55% is probably more meaningful
4. 50% of people agree that stats can be used to prove anything 50% of the time and I know these are only numbers but they do at least provide a quantitative methodology to indicate how the selection of 3 players can affect  team output.

Anyhoo my son and I will be at the ground barracking for the team we put out against Carlton and looking forward to the season immensely
