Agree X that Casey eventually did get it right (so far) over the past 12-18 months which is more than any of his predecessors did in the past two decades but only after 4 years of learning first hand how an AFL footy club should not be operated - giving certain players long-term big $$$ contracts after one good year (thank you Mark Brayshaw), outsourcing the corporate sales and marketing areas, and pumping good money into providing 100% TPP for a poorly recruited list run by a poor coach. That's where most of the money went in terms of losing $3 million in the space of 2 years. Mind you the whole board at that time from 1999 onwards was responsible not just Casey.

March keen to stay in the background

The less media coverage new Richmond president Gary March receives, the happier he’ll be . . .

While some presidents on the AFL scene over the past few years have been viewed as ‘dial-a-quote’ property by a news-hungry football media, March has no intention of following suit.

“I’ve always been that lower-profile person on the Board,” March said.

“I’d like to think I'm fairly grass roots . . . I’ll be there to serve our members, to look after the sponsors, and focus on where we’re going.

“Hopefully, not too many people will see me in the media, because there won’t be a need for me to be making statements. They’ll be seeing Terry Wallace and Greg Miller talking about football matters, and Steven Wright discussing the off-field side of the business.

“I’ll be taking a fairly low-key approach, but those who know me are aware that I speak my mind pretty fairly.

“So, when the need arises, I’ll be there on the front foot for the Richmond Footy Club and speaking my mind on behalf of the Club.

“I certainly won’t be afraid to say what I have to say to the AFL, or other constituents, when it’s needed.”

and that's how it should be.

Considering we've got Miller, who's the most media prolific GM in the AFL, and Wallace who'd be in the top 4 of coaches, there really isn't a need for March to say anything in the media.
