Round 22

Patrick Cripps
30 disposals (19 contested), 13 tackles, 12 clearances, 5 inside 50's

Ben Lennon
........................... :whistle

Richmond FC, ruining careers since '83.

Why not compare Alex Rance or Jack Riewoldt from those draft years?
Cause Carlton have drafted so awesome over the years,
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

This isn't a commentary on the cheats. This is more so highlighting the inadequacies of the current regime.

lol, seriously HRT you're memory isn't that short is it?
At the time we took Lennon (a classy flanker according to some) we overlooked Cripps. So what did we do during the FA and trade period for that  and the next season?
Let betamax and Co pick up recycled inside mids and contested ball players who were never going to be there long term.

And where are we at now? Matt Thomas retired, two junk mids in the VFL who can't get a game and our first round selection from that year 'a flanker' injury prone and unfavored by the senior coach.

Now forget the Franklin/Pavlich/Fyfe arguments that we missed 'great' players... Here is an example of a list need where they overlooked to go on the cheap and get someone from Halfwits favourite bargain bin..

Reality is just like Dusty if the player is good enough they will make it. And Cripps is already showing that he is the play the blues will build their club around.

What dissapointed me, is instead of targeting 'THAT' mid we are missing ala Shiel/Treloar/Prestia we could've drafted them and now be focusing our $$$ and trading picks for what really matters KPD/F
The anywhere, anytime Tigers.

Who else overlooked Cripps
Stupid argument IMO.
Who gives a crap about other teams? This is only about us.

Answer these questions?
Who consistently get picks wrong or selects the wrong players or can't improve players with potential?
Who is the worst performed team in the last 30 years?

...........let's not question anyone, but for stabilities sake, lets keep Betamax because he found "one out of the box" JON or let's rejoice for BJ & Chocco & "Mr Blueprint" half-step Dumma because they were from Port in 2004 and they're all good blokes & they have the characteristics to be great blokes :rollin

Offer Wells from Geelong $700K :shh

Kinnear Beatson is the best in the business by a long way. Craps all over Wells. Built Brisbane 3 time premiership list and has kept Sydney top 4 for the last 6 or 7 years

More to the point, how many people would cry that we picked up a vanilla, one speed midfielder who will never make it. Not to mention Lennon was touted as a top 10 pick whereas Cripps was lucky to break inside the top 20.

Especially at a time when we were screaming for speed

If Cripps came to us he would have shrunk 6cm instead of growing 6 cm.

I think we all get the point our recruiting is our achilles heel but our development ain't great either nor our game play style.  You can win premiership building through the middle like Sydney did and still does so that aspect of recycled players isn't wrong per se but whatever strategy you take, you have to do it well and we are only so so in probably all 3 areas.  It really is time to recruit off field excellence.

The problem is, "they" don't think there is a problem.

Exactly.
And they all are big believers of Dumma's "blueprint to success", "stick to the process", "one step back two steps forward" 5 year plan thats not an 8 year plan even though it will be his eighth year.  :rollin
