AFL-listed players
Adam Marcon23 disposals, six clearances, four tackles, two goals
He’s been the most consistent AFL player for a number of weeks. He had 23 disposals, 13 contested, four tackles and he kicked two goals as well. If we had more “Adam-type” players it would be good for us.
Andrew Moore23 disposals, seven clearances, six tackles
Ended up with 23 disposals, but only had six (disposals) up to half-time and eight to three-quarter time, so his finish to the game was exceptional. He had nine contested possessions in the last quarter alone, along with 14 touches. We just need Andrew to believe in himself for four quarters, because he is more than capable of playing above the level when he does.
Jason Castagna21 disposals, eight clearances, ten tackles, five inside 50s
Played as a midfielder for three quarters, and particularly in the first half, he was probably our best player. Jason had ten tackles and 17 disposals up until half-time. We moved him to half-back in the last quarter where he didn’t have as much influence. He showed he’s more than capable of playing midfield.
Nathan Drummond20 disposals, nine handball receives, 12 uncontested possessions
He had 20 disposals in a reasonable performance and had moments where he was really clean and moments where he chased and tackled really well, and also patches where he went out of the game. Defensively he has a few little things he needs to work on, but he’s certainly showing some signs he’s improving.
Liam McBean15 disposals, nine contested possessions, 12 hit-outs, three clearances, one goal
Played through the ruck and I thought he had great intensity around the contest. We didn’t quite dominate the hit-outs, but we won clearances on the day and he was a big reason for that. He didn’t impact the scoreboard as much as he normally does, but he still kicked a goal.
Dan Butler13 disposals, one goal, four clearances, six tackles
Returned from suspension and played mostly forward, with a couple of stints through the midfield. His long, hard running showed signs in the last quarter of what he’s capable of. Similar to a number of others, we need more of it.
Oleg Markov13 disposals, five marks, six tackles
Started as a forward and had minimal impact. We’re really looking forward to seeing his athletic traits as a forward and getting more involved in contests. He’s working hard behind the scenes to make a difference in that area. We moved him into the midfield in the last quarter and he had six disposals which shows he’s got something there.
Callum MooreTwo goals, 11 disposals, four marks
Ended the day with two goals and four marks. He dropped a couple of chances he would usually take. He’s showing signs, we just need consistency in his effort and work-rate to be an AFL player.
Troy ChaplinNine disposals, four handball receives, five contested possessions
Played full-back for the entirety of the game. He sets us up well and helps us to be organised. Not a dominant display, but played his role and was serviceable.
Mabior CholSix disposals, three marks, three tackles
Played down back and I thought he was disappointing with his positioning and had a few goals kicked against him. He needs to manage those tough times when he’s getting beaten and how he can fight back and be resilient in those situations. Unfortunately, he rolled an ankle and time will tell whether he’ll be available this week.
VFL-listed playersSam Darley26 disposals, ten handball receives, three tackles
Had 26 disposals off half-back, used the ball reasonably well and set some things up behind the ball. I’m looking for his strong leadership, he’s the captain of the team, so when things go wrong, I want him to stand-up more. I want him to be more vocal and demand more from his players.
Jacob Ballard25 disposals, 17 contested possessions, seven clearances, eight tackles, two goals
He was the Caydon Player Of The Day and played like a strong “bull”, which is what we recruited him for and it was a great performance.
Nick Mellington15 disposals, six tackles, three clearances
A little bit in and out, similar to some others. His best is really good, but we just need a more consistent four-quarter performance from him. He played a little bit wing and midfield; he’s a quality player and we need him at his best.
James Fletcher13 disposals, eight uncontested possessions, four handball receives
Played his first VFL game as the 23rd player. He’s an elite runner, so we played him on a wing, and he looks more than capable of playing at the level. He had 13 disposals and we’re looking forward to seeing what he’s got to offer in the coming weeks.
Tom Langford13 disposals, three inside 50s, five handball receives
He had 13 disposals off half-back and a little bit of wing. He’s a quality ball-user, but we’re just looking for less “home-run kicks” with five ineffective kicks out of his ten. because he’s probably our best ball-user. Coming off half-back we can’t afford that and we also need stronger leadership from him.
Tom Silvestro13 disposals, nine uncontested possessions, five handball receives
Consistent with his effort. He’s a “poster boy” for his hardness around the contest and long, hard running. He can inspire others with his effort and we need others to follow from his lead.
Ryan Bathie12 disposals, ten hit-outs, two clearances
Similar to “Beany”, he competed hard in the ruck. He went forward, kicked 1.2, so he could have had a bigger day if not for missed opportunities in front of goal. He continues to play his role.
Tyson KruseSeven disposals, six contested possessions, two tackles
Came in at the last minute. Battles hard, competes hard, played multiple roles, and has been a good role player for us.
Anthony ScottSeven disposals, four marks, three tackles
Returned from local duties and needs to be consistent with his effort around the contest. Three tackles and seven disposals and didn’t impact the scoreboard and we need him to do that being our second leading goal-kicker for the season so far.
Kelvin WilliamsSeven disposals, one tackle, four uncontested possessions
Played his third game and looks like he’s settling in to being able to play at the level. We just need him to bodyline the ball better, come at the ball, and defend when the opposition have it. He only had one tackle as a forward which isn’t enough and he needs to address that.
Daniel CoffieldSix disposals, five uncontested possessions, one tackle
Probably the least impact he has had as a defender for us. He’s been rock solid and really reliable for us and I thought he went away from all the things that made him a good player for us. We’ll address that during the week.
Ash MorrisSix disposals, three handball receives
A small defender, he’s getting caught in between when to attack and when to defend a bit at the moment. He’s learning how to play our system and I think he’s got huge upside and we’re looking forward to getting him back to his strengths.
Jake AartsFive disposals, two tackles
Played a really important role for us tagging an opposition player. I thought he did a great job. He battles hard and he’ll be the first picked this week.
