His goal last night was simply amazing. A rare highlight in a scrappy affair

Dion apparently had 10 score involvement today on top of his 29 disposals and 11 contested.

Assistant coach Adam Kingsley's insight into Prestia's 2019.

No. 1 ranking at Richmond for disposals and clearances this year

"They're great (numbers), and that’s probably not the strength of his game. He’s a fantastic transition player, his ability to get back and support his defence and get forward and hit the scoreboard has been really important for us."

His two-way running ability

"I think it’s one of the best in the AFL. As I said, his ability to get back and support his defence, and he goes with speed, which is really important. It not only helps us defend but then gets our ball use up and going. And his ability to get forward, he’s just a fantastic runner. There’s not too many midfielders in the competition who can run both ways with him."

Leadership qualities

"He’s really taking control of the midfield (in Cotchin's absence), certainly around stoppage and the structural part of the game, his ability to communicate, and get organised and get his teammates organised is really important for us, he’s done a great job."

His balance

"I think that's why they call him the little meatball... he’s short, stout and very hard to tackle, and really well balanced."

Goal kicking

"He gets forward at the right time, it’s just a matter of when to go and when to stay. He's got a pretty good balance of both. But certainly, if we can tidy up our ball use and help transition it a little better, he’ll get involved (in scoring goals)."

Kane Cornes Cooked It

Richmond/Prestia

Going back a while, but Cornes did say at the end of 2016 in the trade period that: "Richmond aren’t in the premiership window and therefore wouldn’t trade for Gold Coast's Dion Prestia."

Whoops.

The riser

Dion Prestia

Pre-season ranking: 102
Current ranking: 40

No one in the competition has more loose-ball gets than the former Sun, while he is No.9 in the AFL for pressure acts. He's been integral to keeping the Tigers afloat while injuries have plagued them.

The standout performance

A Tiger in a rich vein of form features here. Dion Prestia (29.8 Player Ratings points) filled the stats sheet with 32 disposals, 14 contested possessions, 10 inside 50s, eight clearances and 561m gained when Richmond defeated Sydney in round five.

Another 30+ possessions.

Neck and neck between him and grimes for the b&f.

Is Dion Prestia Richmond's most underrated player?

In game 150, the midfielder affectionately known as "the human meatball" by his teammates was first class. In an onball brigade missing leaders Trent Cotchin (hamstring) and Dustin Martin (soreness), Prestia relished the wet conditions against Carlton on Sunday. With 17 disposals to half-time, Prestia didn't slow up, finishing with 35, a whopping 11 clearances and nine inside 50s. Previously plagued with soft-tissue injuries, an uninterrupted pre-season has done wonders for the 26-year-old, averaging 27 touches this year. Shane Edwards is often mentioned as an underrated player, but Prestia may just have slipped under the radar. - Sarah Black

On B&F pace right now, one of the best players in the  comp over the last 6 weeks
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
