"Dion we think will be similar, we're not too far away from getting him locked in," Ashcroft said.

Gold Coast wants a straight swap for Richmond's No. 6 selection in return for Prestia, while the Tigers want to bring in a second-round pick. Gold Coast currently holds picks No. 24 and 26.

It lost No.30 to Port Adelaide in the three-way deal that saw Hanley leave the Lions.

Tigers poised to land Dion Prestia

Richmond are poised to finally secure Dion Prestia from Gold Coast as the trade period draws to a close.

The Suns and Richmond were close to closing a deal in which the Tigers would concede pick 6 for the former top 10 draft pick.

Under the deal, Richmond would give the Suns their first pick, as well a future second-round pick.

The Tigers would gain Prestia as well as a second-round selection this year, strengthening their position in the coming draft.

The clubs were negotiating over whether the pick returned to Richmond would be 24 or 26.

But both were confident on Tuesday night that a deal was extremely close to being done.

The Tigers already hold one second-round pick, the compensation for Tyrone Vickery's move to Hawthorn as a free agent.

Actually think it's a good deal.

Originally GC offered pick 30

22 or 24 coupled with pick 27 gives the opportunity to trade back into the 1st round

Have said it before wouldn't matter what the deal was the club will get bagged / whacked for it.

Some laughable talk about Prestia.

Kid is a gun inside mid.

Couple of injuries the last two years, but nothing to suggest he is actually injury-prone let alone finished. And yet people cry murder at the prospect of trading Deledio FMD.

Mitchell by comparison has had two good years and despite having a higher ceiling imo hasn't proved himself as much as Prestia - based on a longer timeframe of good performances and the fact Mitchell is suited up with Kennedy, Jack, Hannebery, Parker, McVeigh etc whereas Prestia has G Ablett and then not much else.

Worth pick 6? Not in isolation. RFC knows this and this is why the negotiations are taking so long.

Prestia is a gun based on what. What you say expert   :lol :lol :lol

Watch him play, look at his numbers. And he's the type of inside midfielder we sorely need.

On what would you suggest he isn't a gun?

No need to be a bully just because you have nothing constructive to say!

this was posted an the other Prestia thread and I agree

He is an upgrade on so many on our list it's scary. First player I can think of is Miles. I love the way Miles goes about it but I reckon prestia is makred improvement on him

But we lose a future second rounder. So it's basically Prestia for pick 6.

I want Prestia but he's not worth pick 6.

get your point Willy

and I don't want to be sounding like I am defending the club here

But this is one deal....

Once it's done who's to say there won't be more and we get that pick back?

that's why I am prepared to wait until Thursday at 2pm to cast judgement

So much more can happen.... there's the Nankervis deal to be done etc
