Damn - just noticed Swanettes took Darcy Cameron....missed that....

Off the top my head, Jonty Scharenberg looks like he was the most highly rated player that didn't get picked up.....be a handy rookie pick....

Xavier Richards still hasn't found a new home either has he? Was training with Essendon the other week...

I found it no surprise Scharenberg didn't get taken, massively over rated player.
His disposal is below average by foot and average by hand at best.

I found it strange Atley went at 32 while Scharenberg was completely overlooked....they're almost identical players...

RICHMOND

Selections before academy and father/son bidding: 27, 56, 78
Selections after bidding: 29, 53, 72
Who they picked: Shai Bolton, Jack Graham, Ryan Garthwaite
Pre-draft priority: A big-bodied midfielder who can play early on.

Callum Twomey's verdict: Bolton's flair and excitement was clearly too hard to pass up for the Tigers, who will see him as offering something different to their forward mix. After drafting Daniel Rioli with their first pick last year, the Tigers went for speed and dash again in Bolton. He also complements inside pair Dion Prestia and Josh Caddy who joined the club in last month's trade period. Graham will likely sidle up alongside those two next year as a ready-to-go midfielder who fell through to the latter part of the draft, while Garthwaite fills the need of a tall defender. The Tigers were looking at some key backmen with their earlier choice but overlooked them to bring in Bolton, so Garthwaite is a fair selection late.

RICHMOND

The Tigers grabbed inside terriers Dion Prestia and Josh Caddy in trade period and added another contested king in Jack Graham. He captained South Australia and won the Larke Medal as the best player on the national stage. West Australian Shai Bolton slipped to their first pick and he has exhilarating pace. Zips through traffic and will provide spark next to Jack Riewoldt, but will he want to return home? Some were spooked. Ryan Garthwaite finished top 10 at the combine in clean hands and kicking tests but does his best work down back. After Troy Chaplin’s retirement and with a question mark on Jake Batchelor and David Astbury, it was important to boost that position. Two first-rounders next your courtesy of the Brett Deledio trade means the Tigers walk away from the off-season pleased.

Gary Buckenara’s club-by-club analysis of the 2016 AFL draft

RICHMOND

When I wrote my Richmond list analysis column an area I identified as a need was a quick and clever small forward and they’ve got that in Shai Bolton to partner Daniel Rioli. Moving to Melbourne from Western Australia will be a challenge but hopefully he settles in and can produce the impressive footy he showed for South Fremantle. He’s dynamic and has x-factor but needs to get his body right and the Tigers will need to manage him carefully. I didn’t have Jack Graham in my top 50 but some rated him very highly given he won the Larke Medal as the best player in the under-18 championships — I think that pick will please the Tigers but he needs to improve areas of his game. Garthwaite adds depth down back and is very good one-on-one. He finished third in the best and fairest at the Murray Bushrangers and should improve even more learning off the likes of Alex Rance.

Bucky’s verdict: The Tigers are on the right track now in terms of investing and developing talent via the draft rather than bringing in recycled players, which they’ve done in the last five or so years in my opinion. Bolton has upside and hopefully for Tigers fans these players will develop. Time will tell. All three have the capability to play at AFL level next year and should get a taste at some stage but it depends how the Tigers are travelling.
